SCI Stage 1 Target Car.png

As in the original Chase H.Q., the proximity of the Nissan 300ZX T-Top Turbo to the criminals' cars is indicated by that radar display on the screen's right side, with the Nissan 300ZX being represented by a red dot and the criminals' cars represented by a blue one; however, if the Nissan 300ZX spins out or goes off the track, the criminals' cars will get further away from it again. It can also again be difficult to disable the criminals' cars before the time runs out if you expend all your Turbo Activator boosts before you reach them - and you may again pass one or more of the subsequent stages' target cars on this stage, but at this point they are just like every other non-target car, and ramming into them now will not register against them when you manage to catch up with them on the stages where they have become the targets. Motorcyclists are also worth 5000 points if you ram into them, and force them to crash.

Welcome to the game. Once Gibson and Broady's red Nissan 300ZX T-Top Turbo has appeared on the screen, you will have to step on the gas pedal to accelerate it, then turn to the right so you are not driving against opposing traffic, and shift into high gear once it has reached 200 km/h; as in the original Chase H.Q., you will receive 10 points for every metre travelled, along with a bonus that shall start at 50 and doubles each time for every vehicle passed going in the same direction (and one that shall start out at 200 and increases by 200 every time for every vehicle passed going in the opposite direction). Obviously, you will receive more points if you choose to turn to the left instead and drive against opposing traffic (due to the fact that you are running the risk of crashing into a randomly-generated CPU-controlled vehicle coming in the opposite direction) - however, if you should crash into one and spin out, you may have to expend a Turbo Activator boost to ensure that you shall catch up with the target car before the timer runs out. The upcoming blockades of oil drums and barriers on this track's right side also won't apply if you turn to the left; however, you must still make the same turns until the first tunnel. Once you have crashed through a blockade of three oil drums you will have to turn to the right, then turn to the left as you crash through six barriers and send them flying - and once you have done it, you will have to turn to the right, turn to the left, turn to the right again, turn to the left again and turn to the right for a third time as you drive into a tunnel. Once you've come out of the tunnel, the sky shall darken and it will start raining; you will now have to turn to the left, turn to the right, turn to the left again, turn to the right again and drive into another tunnel. Once you've done so, you will receive 10000 points for each second you have remaining as your time is extended by 55, 60, 65 or 70 more seconds, the target car's damage meter appears on the left side of the screen as you come to it (it is indicated by an arrow in its colour and the text "CRIMINAL" over it) and a blue light appears atop the Nissan 300ZX as its siren starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2610 - and you shall receive 500 points every time you shoot the target car along with 10000 points every time you ram it (and as mentioned at the top of the page, the six motorcyclists escorting that target car are worth 5000 points if you ram them and force them to crash). Once that target car's damage meter is at 40% (the percentage now flashes up under it), a helicopter shall fly down into view from the top of the screen and airdrop a rocket launcher onto the Nissan 300ZX; once it lands on it its ammunition of five shots, that shall further damage the target car by 10% when fired at it, will appear in the bottom of the screen and disappear when each one gets fired. Once the target car's damage meter is completely filled, it shall burst into flames and stop - and the screen shall now cut to a shot of Gibson and Broady arresting the target car's driver and passenger as the text "STAGE 1 COMPLETED" appears above it. You will then receive a bonus of 10000 points for every second you have remaining.

The Taito Monitoring System shall then come back up into view from the bottom of the screen again as it adjusts its channel to 4 and volume to almost maximum (and three pictures of the helicopter, an arrow, and a rocket launcher appear underneath it, with the text "HIGH-POWERED ITEM: ROCKET LAUNCHER 5 SHOTS" to their right); its green "BUSY" light shall now come on as Nancy (World: "Karen") appears on its square blue screen followed by the second stage's target car (which is a blue station wagon but bears a resemblance to a van) as the following text appears letter-by-letter under it:

A STATION WAGON
HAS BEEN SPOTTED
ON THE COASTLINE
FREE-WAY WITH
GIRL ABOARD,
APPEARINGLY THE
MISSING JOYCE.
GET ON IT,
IMMEDIATELY.
OVER.

The game will now proceed to the second stage, which features waves lapping at the sides of the track as well as an enemy helicopter dropping bombs.
