Bottomless pit[edit]

The concept of bottomless pits in all videogames is quite simple: you fall down – you die. However, in Shadow of the Ninja bottomless pits don't kill you instantly. They drain half of your energy and teleport you to the nearest platform instead (this means, you can jump over the pit by jumping into it). The damage dealt by bottomless pits is enough to decrease the level of your weapon by one.

Can be met on stages 1-3, 4-1, 4-2, 5-1 and level 3.

Steam[edit]

The steam appears out of the pipe and damages you.

Can be met on stage 2-1.

Giant cog[edit]

Shadow of the Ninja trap3.png

These huge cogs are actually invulnerable enemies rather than traps. There is no way to destroy them, but self-guided shurikens aim at them. Firing level 3 shurikens near giant cog may result in a waste of a weapon.

Can be met on stage 4-2.

Time bomb[1][edit]

This is the only trap that can be destroyed. When you appear near the time bomb, the light on it begins to flash, and after a second it will explode, damaging you if you are nearby. There is no way to run over the time bomb and not to receive damage, so come closer and then run back to “defuse” the bomb. The safe spot is below the time bomb, where it can't harm you, but also can't be triggered.

Can be met on stage 5-1.

Laser cannon[edit]

It fires wide laser shields. There is no way to run from laser shields or to jump over them due to their size and speed. The rate of fire is pretty low and gives you enough time to find a good hiding spot or to run by when it's safe.

Can be met on stage 5-1.

Dragon head[edit]

This is the last trap that can be encountered. It's not so simple to trigger, but it's the most difficult trap to evade. When fighting the last boss, hang on the ladder and don't go further (or climb down the ladder after the fight begins). If you did it right, one of the dragons' heads will fire a fast self-guided ball impossible to evade. There is no point to do so unless you want to receive damage for nothing.

Can be met on stage 5-2.
