Crops are one of the two methods a farmer can use to make money, the other being livestock.
A field can be created in a clear 8x8 square using the PLANT control.
Problems with the field can mostly be addressed with sprays or irrigation.
A harvest time for the field will be scheduled automatically. This can sometimes be adjusted.
If you sell futures on a field, or don't have storage available, crops will be sold immediately upon harvest. Otherwise, harvested crops will be stored in available silos. This can be useful for waiting for the market price for the crop to increase, but be aware that the relative price of the harvest will gradually drop while in storage.
Crop List[edit]
There are 24 crops in SimFarm. 16 of the crops are available for use. You can use File > Load Crop to change which crops are available. Keep in mind that you can't remove a crop from the list of available options if it is active in any way on your farm (purchased seeds, harvested crops, active fields, etc).

Detailed Crop Table[edit]
Until this table is completed, most of the information can be found using the Farm Bureau window. It will only include loaded crops. Without more experimentation, it's not clear exactly what "Degree Days" are, or what storage temperatures mean when they don't specify a range.
Problems[edit]
If ground conditions are not right for the selected crop, and icon will appear to indicate the problem.
Icon | Problem | Solution |
---|---|---|
Too much water in soil | Place more dry/empty irrigation ditches beside the field | |
Not enough water in soil | Connect irrigation ditches beside the field to a water source, or add more wet irrigation ditches | |
High soil toxicity | Change the type of crop growing in the field or stop growing crops. May take time to resolve. | |
Low soil nutrients | Spray fertilizer | |
High levels of pests in field | Spray pesticide | |
Too many weeds in field | Spray herbicide | |
Crop infected with disease | Spray fungicide |
Each crop has unique requirements for water, temperature, and growing time.
