Total Carnage intro.png

Once you have inserted your coin(s) into the cabinet for Midway Games's 1992 multi-directional shooter arcade game, Total Carnage, the game's name shall be announced from the OKI MSM-6295 (without the "I love it!" from Smash T.V.); once you have pressed either (or both) Start Button(s), the game shall cut to the shot of the BNN (a spoof of CNN) news reporter, Candy Blitzer (a spoof of Wolf Blitzer), seen above as the game's opening theme starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 and the following text appears onscreen before a magenta mutant reaches in from its left side and grabs Blitzer:

After The War Of 1999, Reporters
Swarmed Into The War Zone...

WE ARE IN DANGER!
WE HAVE UNCOVERED
A SINISTER PLOT BY
GENERAL AKHBOOB.

THE PLOT INVOLVES
HIS ADVANCED
BIO-NUCLEAR
RESEARCH FACILITY.

Soon After, Hundreds Of Reporters
And Other Civilians Are Missing...

AND IN FACT,
GENERAL AKHBOOB'S
REAL IDENTITY IS...

Blitzer shall then scream from the MSM-6295 as the screen distorts, a label saying "CENSORED" appears on it, and the following text appears below it:

Meanwhile, back at U.S. Military H.Q.,
the decision is made...

The screen shall then cut to a shot of the United States Military Headquarters (which has a map of Kookistan, the spoof of Kurdistan in which this game takes place, on its computer screen) as the following text appears on it ("PRESS START TO BEGIN" also flashes up below it if you wish to skip this bit):

INTELLIGENCE
CONFIRMS AMERICAN
CITIZENS ARE BEING
HELD HOSTAGE.

WE ALSO CONFIRM
THE PRESENCE OF
UNKNOWN LIFE FORMS
IN THE SAME AREA!

SEND IN THE
DOOMSDAY SQUAD!

Game Objectives
1. Blast Through Enemy Forces
To Find General Akhboob.
2. Destroy Unknown Life Forms.
3. Rescue News Reporters
And Other Civilians.

The phrase "Send in the Doomsday Squad!" will also be announced from the MSM-6295, and the game will now proceed to Mission 1; if you direct your soldier over to the red-and-white wormhole (which has the text "PASSWORD REQUIRED!" flashing up below it) on the right side of the screen, you can warp ahead to further points in the game by entering one of sixteen passwords (which are listed on the Passwords page), therefore saving a lot of time.
