Zapdos can be a good choice for your team regardless of buildup. Most teams will consider a Flying-type a must, and Electric-types are few and far between. Zapdos will easily fill both spots, and also provide some needed muscle. Finally, even though Electric-type Pokémon are usually vulnerable to Ground and Grass types, Zapdos' Flying-type provides cover for these weaknesses.}}

Now with the Surf ability, backtracking is needed to explore previously spotted water bodies, and there's a hidden Power Plant awaiting in one of the several areas that you once got past and have long moved on. You'll be surfing from Route 10, which is next to Cerulean City and just before entering Rock Tunnel.

Power Plant

The Power Plant

The Power Plant isn't needed to finish the game's storyline, but is needed to complete the Pokédex and go through what the game has to offer you. The Power Plant is yet another "dungeon," not very long and with an almost linear straightforward layout, fortunately for your nerves. It's home to Electric-type Pokémon, including the winged mirage Zapdos. Save often, as a couple of the Poké Ball items are actually unique overworld wild Electrode (lvl. 34) Pokémon that do not respawn. You could skip the dungeon with repels and go right for Zapdos at the end, if you don't feel like playing. For it, bring sufficient Poké Balls. On Fuchsia City, Ultra Balls, superior, are sold. Save the Master Ball for a much tougher foe ahead. As with any legendary Pokémon, save before battling Zapdos. If you make it faint or if you run away, it will not appear again.

New Pokémon

#81 Magnemite

Pokemon 081Magnemite.png Magnemite, and its evolution, Magneton, are Steel/Electric Pokemon with a lot of power. Its Special Attack. and defense stats are excellent (a must for Electric Pokémon). Their ability to combo Zap Cannon or Thunder with Lock-On is also tough to beat. Unfortunately, their HP is somewhat low, making Magnemite less of a Steel cannon and more of a "Glass" one.

#125 Electabuzz

Pokemon 125Electabuzz.png An Electric-type Pokémon that is exclusive to Pokémon FireRed. Electabuzz sports good attack and special stats, and a moveset that includes Swift and Thunder Punch.

Unfortunately, as Electabuzz also has low HP and defense stats (and doesn't evolve in this generation), it's easily out-classed by other Pokémon.

#145 Zapdos

Pokemon 145Zapdos.png The Thunder bird, Zapdos, is arguably the strongest of the three Legendary Birds. Zapdos is found at level 50 knowing Drill Peck, Thunder Wave, Detect, and Agility. Add some additional TM's like Thunderbolt or Thunder, and Zapdos will mow down most enemies easily.

Zapdos can be a good choice for your team regardless of buildup. Most teams will consider a Flying-type a must, and Electric-types are few and far between. Zapdos will easily fill both spots, and also provide some needed muscle. Finally, even though Electric-type Pokémon are usually vulnerable to Ground and Grass types, Zapdos' Flying-type provides cover for these weaknesses.

Route 10

Once you exit the Power Plant you will be at the south exit of Route 10. Once done, Route 19 is the next challenge.
