Goldenrod City

Goldenrod is a bustling metropolis, with lots to do and see and explore. There's a Pokémon Center just north of where you enter the city, and the Department Store is across the main street. (More on the Department Store later.)

Radio Tower

First stop, the Radio Tower, in the northwest of the city, but south of the train tracks. The gentleman in the center seat will compare your Pokémon ID numbers to that day's Lucky Number (you can check the lucky number on your PokéRadio); if they match, you win a prize. You can collect different ID numbers by trading with other players (all the Pokémon you catch will have the same ID). The man on the right will ask you five questions; if you get them all right, he gives you a Radio Card to add a radio function to your Pokégear. Bonus for Crystal players: Go up to the second floor and talk to Buena. She will give you a Blue Card. Every day from 6pm to midnight, she broadcasts a password. If you return to the Radio Tower and tell her the password, she will give you a point. When you've accumulated enough points, you can buy items from her assistant.

Head east across the main street, then south into the cul-de-sac. The store at the bottom of the cul-de-sac is a Bike Shop; the owner offers to give you a free bike if you will advertise for him and give him your phone number. If you choose the bicycle in your pack, and choose SEL, you can toggle the bike on and off with your Select button button.

Underground

Underground

In the parallel cul-de-sac on the west side of town is an entrance to the Goldenrod City Underground. There are several trainers here, as well as an herbalist and a salon, where you can get haircuts for your Pokémon; an untidy Pokémon is an unhappy Pokémon, and some Pokémon (particularly Togepi) will only evolve when they're happy. There are two stylists; the younger one charges File:Pokébuck.png300 and the older charges File:Pokébuck.png500. Don't forget to collect the Coin Case while you're down here; you can't play in the Gaming Center without it. The door at the end of the side hall is locked.

In the house to the northwest of the lower entrance is a little girl who will give you the phone number of Bill, the Pokémon Storage System guru. You can call him any time to see how full your current box is; if it's full, you can't catch any more Pokémon. Next door to the upper entrance is the house of the Name Rater; you can rename any of your Pokémon, except ones you got in trade, by talking to him.

5th Floor

The girl at the top will give you a Mystery Gift. The boy near her will offer to trade you a Machop for your Abra. On Sundays, a woman is here who will give you either TM27 (Return) or TM21 (Frustration), depending on how happy your Pokémon are.

Rooftop Lookout

This is where sales happen. If Todd calls you about a sale, head up here.

In the first basement, there are three men working, all of whom will shoo you away. Go in the elevator, go to any floor, go back to the basement and they will have rearranged the boxes. You can collect three items this way, if you repeat the action three times. The fourth item, and the staircase down to the second basement, are behind a locked door, however...

Leaving Town

The gatehouse to Route 35 is at the north of town. The guard inside will ask you to take a Pokémon bearing a letter to his friend on Route #31. If you take the Pokémon and backtrack to Route #31, the recipient will give you TM50 (Nightmare). When you return here and report to the guard, he'll give you an HP Up.
