The first person on Route 32 will not let you pass until you've won the Zephyr Badge from the Violet City Gym, so go back there if you don't have it. Once you do, talk to him, and he will give you a Miracle Seed, which will increase the power of any Grass-type moves for the Pokémon who is holding it. The fellow standing on the plateau will give you TM05 (Roar), but you can't reach him until you get Cut.

You can go left into the Ruins of Alph, or continue south. At the bottom of the route is a Pokémon Center. Inside is an old man who will give you his Old Rod. You can't catch anything but Magikarp with it, though.

Your way forward continues into the Union Cave.

Calendar Event: Friday's Child

On Fridays, Frideya appears near the Pokémon Center at the bottom of the Route. She will give you a Poison Barb.
