You'll need to fight, or run or [[../Skills#Stealth|sneak]] past, members of the Black Vulkar gang as you go.

You won't be able to get into the {{s|Lower City|Black Vulkar Base}} at the east end of the Lower City yet, but killing its guards is still advisable. You don't need to enter the [[../Lower City#Apartments|east]] or [[../Lower City#Apartments 2|west apartments]], but you can get some good items and complete bounties inside. You also don't need to enter {{s|Lower City|Javyar's Cantina}} to the west before completing the search for Bastila, but you're introduced to some characters you encounter later and you can earn credits by playing [[../Javyar's Cantina#Lower City|Pazaak]] and collecting [[../Javyar's Cantina#Bounty Office|bounties]].

Although you cannot enter when you first arrive in the Lower City, killing these two guards is advisable for light side characters who refuse [[../Black Vulkar Base (Garage)#Search for Bastila|Kandon Ark's]] offer once inside, since they'll be there when you exit with the swoop accelerator for the [[../Lower City#Hidden Bek Base|Hidden Beks]]; it's also advisable for dark side characters, since after accepting Kandon Ark's offer and exiting, the guards and all other Black Vulkars in the Lower City will be gone.

You need to travel west from the Upper City elevator and enter the Hidden Bek Base to exchange your Sith armor for papers before you can enter the Undercity further to the west. You'll need to fight, or run or sneak past, members of the Black Vulkar gang as you go.

You won't be able to get into the Black Vulkar Base at the east end of the Lower City yet, but killing its guards is still advisable. You don't need to enter the east or west apartments, but you can get some good items and complete bounties inside. You also don't need to enter Javyar's Cantina to the west before completing the search for Bastila, but you're introduced to some characters you encounter later and you can earn credits by playing Pazaak and collecting bounties.

Upper City[edit]

You enter the Lower City from the Upper City elevator to the south of a crossroads. When you first approach it, an altercation between three Black Vulkars and three Hidden Beks takes place just to the west:

The Vulkar Shock Stick has On Hit: Stun 25% chance, 6 seconds, DC 10, so focus on this one first (preferably from range) unless you want to be on the wrong end of your first lesson of how advantageous debilitating your opponents can be... particularly if any character is level < 5 (a death blow while debilitated results in instant death).

To the east from the crossroads above the Upper City elevator, you'll see the entrance to the Black Vulkar base. Between the crossroads and the entrance you'll see a Twi'lek corpse on the right just beyond a smoking swoop bike:

Although you cannot enter when you first arrive in the Lower City, killing these two guards is advisable for light side characters who refuse Kandon Ark's offer once inside, since they'll be there when you exit with the swoop accelerator for the Hidden Beks; it's also advisable for dark side characters, since after accepting Kandon Ark's offer and exiting, the guards and all other Black Vulkars in the Lower City will be gone.

After exiting you'll be able to enter again, although all remaining Black Vulkars within will be hostile. After traveling west from the crossroads above the Upper City elevator until you're halfway round the bend to the north, a Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars appear to the left of the Twi'lek corpse, where they'll be waiting for you when you exit and return to the Hidden Bek base, unless you doubled back to kill them or accepted Kandon Ark's offer.

Apartments[edit]

To the north of the crossroads above the Upper City elevator, the east Lower City apartments are beyond the standard door ahead of you.

When you go west from the crossroads and enter the bend to the north, a Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars appear to the north of the crossroads by the entrance to these apartments, presumably to ambush you upon your return.

Javyar's Cantina[edit]

Go west from the crossroads above the Upper City elevator, round the bend to the north and you'll see the door to Javyar's Cantina in the west wall guarded by a Rodian bouncer on the right.

You have to speak to the bouncer to be let in, although nobody can be equipping Sith Armor:

Although it isn't necessary to enter until escaping Taris, you can meet Mission and Zaalbar here if you don't already have Sith papers from Gadon Thek in the Hidden Bek base, meet Calo Nord if you haven't completed the search for Bastila, or play Pazaak or visit the Bounty Office to earn some credits.

Hidden Bek Base[edit]

Past the Rodian bouncer outside Javyar's Cantina you'll see the door to the Hidden Bek base in the east wall, guarded by a lookout on the left: at this point, both she and the bouncer are invulnerable and will attack any Black Vulkars that come within range.

When you pass the Hidden Bek Base, travel north and enter the bend to the west, a Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars appear ahead of you.

As you continue west past the entrance to the west apartments, another Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars will appear up ahead, hidden on the left.

Continue west to the Undercity elevator, guarded by five blaster turrets (three to the left and two to the right) and a Sith soldier to the right. If anyone is still equipping Sith Armor:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: Hold on – where do you think you're going? This area is restricted to Undercity patrols! Without the proper security papers I can't let you past.

Indeed: the Sith soldier and blaster turrets are all invulnerable, and have On Hit: Instant Death, DC 100.

Search for Bastila[edit]

The Sith guard in the Lower City refuses to let you into the Undercity without the proper authorization. You'll have to get your hands on some type of pass or papers if you want to explore the Undercity for signs of Bastila's escape pod.

Once you have Sith papers from Gadon Thek in the Hidden Bek Base, the soldier will let you go down to the Undercity:
