Weaver's Peak Map

Look at all those beautiful items! Rex is poor right now, so you'll want to grab every one of them. And be sure to buy a Leather Shield from the Weapons and Armour shop (marked "D"), and 2x Herbs from the Items shop (slightly up from the "E"). The added Resilience will be a tremendous boon in this stage of the game.

Progress the plot by talking to Mayor Spindell inside the northeast house. He will give a bag of his village's goods and tell you to sell them at the southern town of Haggleton; that way they can pay for the festival they're holding tonight! So exit the village and do as the mayor says.

All non-boss enemies in the DS version give out 20% more EXP and Gold than they did in the original SNES version, and have had their HP reduced to 80% of their original amount. None of their other stats have been altered, however; and the Bosses are exactly the same as they were in the SNES version. So this guide will work equally well for both versions; the SNES version usually isn't "harder" so much as it's simply more annoying.

But, SNES players will still take slightly more damage. You can kill the DS enemies here in one hit, but not the SNES enemies; so be careful to keep your HP above 8, even after you've gotten the Wayfarer's Clothes. On that note, snag the Wayfarer's Clothes right away, get the 20 Gold, take the dirt slide to I, and skip the Inn as you exit. The Inn costs 10G to use, while Medical Herbs cost 8G.

Path to Haggleton

About "random" encounters
Encounters in DQ6 aren't truly random. You will ALWAYS get an encounter after a certain amount of steps (with little variance); stay on the Plains, and you will be GUARANTEED to fight only one battle on the way to Haggleton, if at all. That's why we don't need to get to Level 3 before making this trip, inspite of the Ornery Onions.

Important Note: Always have full HP here! The Ornery Onions hit for upwards to 6 Damage, even with the highest possible Resilience! What's more, you can encounter up to three of them at one.

Fortunately, they always have a ~17% chance of using an Herb instead of attacking. In addition, choosing the Run makes it so that one or two of them will sometimes do nothing. Finally, the Run command is guaranteed to work once you use it three times in a row. So as long as you're at 31 HP, you should be able to Run successfully.

You could also grind to Level 3 before this area, if you do not like running. That will give you enough HP to reliably kill even 3x Ornery Onions at once. This is not necessary however; we will be getting far stronger defensive equipment at Haggleton.

Now, if you are playing the remakes, you can get a zoomed in view of the world map by pressing X. SNES players are not so lucky; they have to buy an expensive map at Haggleton in order to have the same luxury. This guide, therefore, will provide maps for each overworld segment to accomodate them.
