Castlevania Legends is a classic-style Castlevania action game for the Game Boy, originally released in Japan as "Akumajō Dracula: Dark Night Prelude." It was the last of the three Castlevania games released on the original Game Boy, as well as the last "Classicvania" game in the series that received a physical release (Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth was released solely on WiiWare in 2009).

Castlevania Legends is the only game in the series to star a female Belmont, in the form of Sonia. Within the Legends universe, Sonia is the mother of Trevor Belmont from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, which as a result places Castlevania Legends some time in the early-to-mid-1400s. Castlevania Legends was original designed as an origin story for the feud between the Belmont Clan and Dracula, however, with the release of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence six years later in 2003, Koji Igarashi removed Castlevania Legends from the main canon timeline.
