Castlevania: Lament of Innocence was the first Castlevania game to be released for the PlayStation 2. Despite being a later installation to the series, it is set in 1094, making it chronologically the 'first', thus explaining why the Belmonts are sworn to hunt and destroy/seal Dracula.
