This is no ordinary story mode. Assuming you haven't skip previous pages, you get to do many things in a sort of linear way.

Most of all, branching stories although minor affects who is with you and against you.
If your playing multiplayer, if you earn this system of points, you can unlock arenas and fighters. You can also unlock it through story mode but certain fighters might not be able to be unlock without your contribution.
Go through the walkthrough to see what happens to your created character as he go threw this feudal war between D-Mob and Crow (and people in between).
