Path to Somnia

There's not much resistance on the way to Somnia; in fact, you may not even encounter anything at all.

Somnia Village

You will want to note the following points...

  1. The "hidden item shop merchant" spoken of here arrives only after you go through every cutscene you can go through in this town. This is important because he happens to sell of the most useful accesories in the game, the Gold Bracer. It does the same thing as the Gold Ring, but gives a Defense boost of +15 instead of +5.
  2. If you are playing the SNES version (or refused to abuse the Casino), you will also wish to buy the Thief's Key from him in order to get the Poison Moth Knife for Milly. This weapon is the very first one in the game to have a secondary effect; in this case, it has a chance of paralyzing the enemy every time it strikes. If you didn't follow the steps listed in the last section, be sure to buy the Thief's Key before getting it (you will see why later); otherwise, you can simply buy the Thorn Whip for her, as you won't be needing the Poison Moth Knife's secondary effect.
  3. You need to enter the castle in order to progress the plot. However, you cannot do so UNLESS you've bought the Royal Clothes from the armour shop. As weird as it sounds, the programmor's made it so that you have to be wearing them in order to progress with the game.

Somnia Castle

Note: Be sure to get the Silk Robe from the Throne Room immediately after walking in; you will not have access to it again until the start of Chapter 3. Also, this is yet another instance where there are two chests you can't get until later on.

Aside from the Silk Robe, there are no optional things to do here. All you have to do is talk to Captain Rusty, talk to the prisoner in the jail (marked M), then talk to the person guarding the entrance to the throne room (marked O). Finish things off by getting the Silk Robe, talking to the woman watching over the King and Queen, then try and leave. You will be accosted by Chancellor Keating right before getting kicked out (it doesn't matter how you answer Keating's question).

Path to Amor

Note: Be sure to get 3x Gold Bracers and a Thief's Key from the Hidden Item Merchant; he's there now! After that, get the Poison Moth Knife, and head on over to Amor.
