Mythos's title screen.

Mythos is a computer game under development by Flagship Studios. The game is being created by the recently formed Flagship Seattle and its development is led by Travis Baldree, creator of the action RPG FATE. The game started as an action RPG intended to test the networking technology behind the multiplayer component of Flagship Studios' Hellgate: London, but has since grown into an independent game scheduled for a separate release. Mythos will not be sold in shops, but rather be digitally distributed by Flagship Studios subsidiary Ping0 in North America and Europe. The game will be free to play and download, but optional in-game items will be available for online purchase to help finance the game.

The game is very similar in style to the Diablo series utilizing the same perspective, extensive map and item randomization, many of the interface characteristics of the original game, as well as sharing a fantasy setting.

Mythos shares the in-house developed game engine created for Hellgate: London.

Story

Mythos is an online role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world called Uld.

Individuals or groups of players assume the roles of fantasy heroes to reclaim the land from the creatures while striving to be the first to discover ancient and powerful secrets of lost civilizations.

Mythos allows thousands of players to interact within the same world while using randomized and instanced dungeons and environments to create unique gaming experiences. The game dynamically constructs the adventuring areas for each band of fortune-hunters every time. No two play sessions are exactly the same.

As far as races and classes go so far, it is known that players can be either Humans, Satyrs, or Gremlins. Classes include Bloodletter, a melee class; Gadgeteer, a ranged class; and Pyromancer, a magic user class.

1up.com and Gamespy have solid previews of the game on their websites, and Game Informer devoted their "Mod World" column to this up-and-coming MMO in their August 2007 issue, "There isn't much better news a gamer can get than to hear that the developers of one of their favorite games is working on a spiritual sequel - and giving it away for free."
