Of course, but what do you think about that?,

Shouldn't the mane page contain an index. As it stands I see no clear center; a nexcus, a list of all the games. What the strategy wikis goals and what it is about. Seems more likely to be an about page.
* There are links to categories that contain the categorized guides on the main page. Right under all the goals. --Hack 19:48, 6 January 2006 (PST)

This page is for the discussion of the Main Page only. All issues relating to StrategyWiki itself should be discussed on the Community Issues page. To help improve the Main Page layout, visit the Work in Progress

Of course, but what do you think about that?,

Screenshot of the day suggestion

I know it's some shameless self-publicity, but could my Image:css_cs_office_overview_general.png image be used as a screenshot of the day? I've just worked for quite a while to make it, and there isn't a screenshot of the day on the main page at the moment anyway. --DrBob 14:37, 22 May 2006 (PDT)

Links

Currently, the links to StrategyWiki:Collaboration of the Month and StrategyWiki:Promising Guide of the Month look really ugly. Basically, instead of

StrategyWiki:Promising Guide of the Month

have something more like

Promising Guide of the Month

Bypass Redirect

check out an example of our system in action should point to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/The Beginning instead of a redirect. --inarius(T) 20:37, 18 October 2006 (CDT)

Wording on introduction

Since people have to register in order to edit pages, the introduction text of

"The guides here can be edited by anyone, so feel free to jump in and improve something!"

seems a bit misleading. Perhaps the words "jump in and improve something" can be linked to the register page? --blendmaster 13:19, 3 July 2007 (CDT)

What about the exclamation mark?--Rocky http://media.strategywiki.org/images/thumb/7/78/Rally-X_Rock.png/25px-Rally-X_Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 14:36, 3 July 2007 (CDT)
It doesn't matter to me. --blendmaster 13:53, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Ordering of systems

I think it would be better if the order of systems on the main page was in alphabetical order, e.g.:

Systems (all systems): DS, GBA, GameCube, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360

Pelago 15:15, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

I disagree with this change. The systems were sorted by company which makes it a bit easier to navigate (always put similar things together). -- Prod (Talk) 22:24, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
I like it alphabetically, however Wii does NOT fit well before Xbox. Weird... --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:29, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

Genres location

Why not set it underneat the A-Z and statistics? That way we'll have a pyramid effect (why are they at the top anyways?). This is, of course, for when we switch to the systems in graphical form. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:49, 8 August 2007 (CDT)

Looks good on 800x600+ resolutions, sadly the lower ones have to deal with double rows (doesn't matter the location). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:15, 9 August 2007 (CDT)

SW is not ready to show off

The DPL list and the redesigned system browser are two very nice additions, but they reveal where StrategyWiki is lacking most (especially the system browser.) Until StrategyWiki is ready to show off, are the new additions really going to help us impress readers with more red links?--Dan 20:24, 10 August 2007 (CDT)

The DPL list (yay: DynamicPageList list--redundancy ftw) is listing the best that we have (aka highly complete and viewed guides). We could modify it so it only picks stuff from completion stage 4, if that's needed, however. --Skizzerz Scissors.pngSafety Skizzerz Talk · Contribs · Spel Chek™ · VFG · RTFM 20:50, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
Interesting fix, but given the number of finished guides that are actually popular, it would bear no usefulness seeing how there would be nearly no contemporary diversity and therefore does not seem necessary to be front page material. At this point a "list of 10 popular unfinished guides" and vice a versa would make more sense on the Community portal if on any front page.--Dan 23:09, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
But the key word is popular. To hell with their completion level, they're what people come to StrategyWiki for! I don't think 217k page views of MapleStory says "this guide is not ready to show off." -- talk 23:45, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
Remember, we are a wiki, so even if some users aren't impressed with red links, others might see it as an opportunity to contribute or even as a promise of content to come. -- talk 23:45, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
What red links are you guys talking about? I don't see any... --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:55, 10 August 2007 (CDT)

Ok, I've modified the DPL to show 10 random pages from the top 50 pages in Completion Stage 2 or above (aka not 1 or 0). This will bring them to popular guides that some people may find that they could improve upon. --Skizzerz Scissors.pngSafety Skizzerz Talk · Contribs · Spel Chek™ · VFG · RTFM 10:27, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

Too bad it only counts edits on the main page of the guide, is there a way to fix this or will it put too much strain on the Database.--Rocky http://media.strategywiki.org/images/thumb/7/78/Rally-X_Rock.png/25px-Rally-X_Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 12:04, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
Yes, there is, but there is no way to only make the guide itself show then. Besides, if you want all the edits, just use Special:Recentchanges. Most casual visitors won't care about sub-pages, anyway, which is why they aren't there. --Skizzerz Scissors.pngSafety Skizzerz Talk · Contribs · Spel Chek™ · VFG · RTFM 12:12, 1 September 2007 (CDT)

Missing icons

The logos for the Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PC are missing. I tried refreshing and stuff, but I still can't see it. Baejung92 17:59, 27 October 2007 (CDT)

Fixed. -- Prod (Talk) 19:14, 27 October 2007 (CDT)

DPL completion levels

Does anyone object to me adding completion levels to our popular and new guide lists? It looks like this:

ABXY

Shouldn't ABXY be connected with StrategyWiki in someway? Incase you didn't know, ABXY is the sister project of StrategyWiki. ABXY is a gaming forum made by StrategyWiki creator (Echleon/Brandon). It can be found at abxy.org .

There are a fair number of roadblocks in the way for us to properly connect ABXY and SW the way we want. We are working on interoperability, but it may take some time. -- Prod (Talk) 13:01, 19 November 2007 (CST)
I have to express vocal concerns over a proposed merger. The staff at ABXY has a lower maturity level than the sysops and bureaucrats here by a long shot, and by merging the two, these same staff members would have all of the privileges of a sysop, if not close to it. Those in #strategywiki can undoubtedly understand my reason for my concerns. --Tathar Tathar.jpg (talk|contribs) 21:40, 31 March 2008 (CDT)
The wiki will stay on its own, but the portal and forums will be shared. As the site grows, things should balance things out nicely since we have good "leadership". -- Prod (Talk) 21:57, 31 March 2008 (CDT)

What are some way that are planned to connect the two? Lately ABXY has been dying, but one of the admin (Teddy) has recently returned and has been working on it a lot. He wants to connect the two eventually, but you guys are going to need to work together, which you probably know.

Founder

Who is the founder of this website?(MrSue 00:34, 9 March 2008 (CST))

That would be User:Echelon. -- Prod (Talk) 01:08, 9 March 2008 (CST)

Forum Registration

Since Community Issues and all that is now based in the forums, I can really think of no better place to post this. I cannot register at the forums. Whether I use Safari or Firefox, I cannot friggin' register. Is there any reason for this? More importantly, is there any way around this, or an I screwed? Lunar Knight (Talk to me + Contribs) 16:49, 30 March 2008 (CDT)

I registered there, why can't you? Doesn't let you use hyphens? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:31, 31 March 2008 (CDT)
Maybe it's to do with all numbers as well.--The preceding signed comment was added by Rocky (talkcontribs). 03:07, 31 March 2008 (CDT)
The only way I could get registered on the forums was to click through to abxy.org and register when the URL displayed in my browser displayed abxy instead of strategywiki.--Vizeroth 00:27, 1 April 2008 (CDT)
Off topic here, but I found that the Staff Lounge is still around as well. Baejung92 17:49, 1 April 2008 (CDT)

Main Page should totally be deleted

By the way, did we have an April Fools' joke last year? I don't think I checked back then... Baejung92 17:55, 1 April 2008 (CDT)

I don't know if we did. We originally had a bit more planned for this year, but two of them didn't work out (saving them for next year, so I'm not saying what). Anyway, see if you can find the other two jokes. Perhaps jumping around to random pages would help you locate them. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 18:04, 1 April 2008 (CDT)
Well, I obviously found that one... I might have found the other, but right after I watched that youtube vid I realized I had a virus on the computer that disables both my browsers, IE and Firefox (McAfee can't get rid of it, so I'm looking for new solutions, and meanwhile I can temporarily get online because I installed Safari). What was it? Baejung92 20:52, 2 April 2008 (CDT)
[1] sums it up quite well... --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 20:55, 2 April 2008 (CDT)
I did a little one last year that got put in every infobox and on the main page, sadly it only worked for people using IE6 or the monobook skin.--The preceding signed comment was added by Rocky (talkcontribs). 03:03, 3 April 2008 (CDT)

Ways you can help

We have "Ways you can help" but not "Why you should help". Please add to the Main Page/WIP what you think we should add. -- Prod (Talk) 14:35, 10 May 2008 (CDT)
