To archive:

#Delete content that is out of date/to be archived.
This is the first time I've seen it spelled that way. Is that a translation or what version writes it that way in English, in game? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:47, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
#At the top of the page (in Monobook theme, not sure about Dolphin - the current default) click "history".

#Click on (or open a new tab) the date stamp (e.g. "15:21, September 4, 2013" without quotes for Archive #1) for #the last edit before you deleted content (that loads the page as it was before you deleted stuff).
== Talk pages ==
#Copy the URL (you could combine this with #3 if you know hot to right click copy URL from the link).

#Edit the current talk page and add the URL as a new entry in the archives table. Just copy the line for archive #1 and fill in the URL, change the archive number, and change the archive date. Done.
Let's just pick one or the other, shall we? I think the wiki is easier to communicate on, and its transparent for any collective efforts. I replied on South Perry but would like to continue here. Also, when adding a new comment, please create your own header rather than put an unrelated message under someone else's. There's a + icon that will help you avoid formatting the heading code (the equal signs that make the text large and appear in the table of contents). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 05:05, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

:I'm not mad. =) Oh, also. It's usually best, with most Wiki users, to post on their talk page each time instead of replying here, if you thought about it. However, if the discussion is more collaborative, instead of just questions, replying below is better. Oh, and you didn't need to create another new section since I moved your first comment down. I'll combine them for you. Use colons at the start of the line to indent your message further, to separate each reply visually (I'll do the first one for you so you can see in the source how simple it is). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 06:16, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Alright, gotcha. Oh, and Daimyo is actually called "Daimyo Toad", according to Southperry and Maple Archive databases.

== MapleStory changes ==

Paco has never played MapleStory. He's just good at organizing things, so you'll have to be specific if working with him. Like he said, tagging images with the deletion or rename templates, with a reason, will help direct his efforts to help you get stuff done. I haven't gotten to Neo Tokyo yet so I can't help verify the correct image. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 19:31, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Alright, thanks for the heads up. I'll keep it in mind.
--[[User:PirateIzzy|PirateIzzy]] ([[User talk:PirateIzzy|talk]]) 19:47, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

:If you want to include non-GMS monster data, I recommend that you create second section/table on each page for the regional version that they apply to. E.g. on [[MapleStory/Monsters/Level_21-30]] you re-added Ashigaru and some other monsters that are not in GMS. As a GMS-guide, we don't care about this, which is why we removed it. Add <nowiki>==KMS==</nowiki> if need be, but please do not add these non-existent monsters back into the main tables. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:47, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Actually, I never re-added it. It was already there while I was editing the page. I just never bothered to remove it.
--[[User:PirateIzzy|PirateIzzy]] ([[User talk:PirateIzzy|talk]]) 20:55, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

It was unfortunately not compatible with the newest version of MediaWiki, and I haven't been able to get it working. I'm looking into getting a newer (maintained) version working.  Unfortunately, it's back to single uploading for now.  Sorry about the inconvenience. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 01:32, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
:I'll see if there are any settings I can mess with to make it more streamlined, but unfortunately the old one was getting a lot more difficult to maintain with each release (no updates in over a year). -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 03:11, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
::If you want to replace an image you will have to do it the normal way by going to the file page, then under the file history is a link labeled "Upload a new version of this file". --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:01, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
@ {{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}}, yeah, I've been doing that for a while. I just wish I could do so in bulk, though.
--[[User:PirateIzzy|PirateIzzy]] ([[User talk:PirateIzzy|talk]]) 21:52, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

== MapleStory/Shields and Off-Hand Weapons ==

::That's ok, it's removed. Also, Izzy, I'm not sure what to do about Daimyo. Only the Crusader Codex displays its name as that; perhaps we should only reference it by that name in the notes of the monster and on the [[MapleStory/Crusader Codex]] page (which needs a lot of work). Oh, and the "Sweetheart Mushrooms, bears, and Calico Mack" can be removed. I've never seen them before. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 21:59, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
The class-specific items on this page: [[MapleStory/Shields and Off-Hand Weapons]] should be moved to the class equipment pages. A note should then be added to the top of the page noting what classes cannot use shields (either because of restrictions or because their off hand is un-removable, like Mihile's shield). That would be a good way to get the class equipment pages started (they are the most common red-linked/non-existent page type at this time). As usual, this is not an order, but my opinion, so if you have any ideas please let me know =) --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 04:30, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Well, when you hover over the boss icon for Daimyo Toad, it shows the "Toad" part. The NPC doesn't have the "Toad" part in it, because of the storyline for Sakura Castle. In the story, the Daimyo was captured by the Gigatoad, and the Gigatoad disguised itself as the Daimyo. That's why the Daimyo comes out of the chest after Gigatoad is defeated.
:Thank you. You are definitely our current MapleStory guide guardian (this is how I think of it). We really appreciate all your help.
--[[User:PirateIzzy|PirateIzzy]] ([[User talk:PirateIzzy|talk]]) 22:33, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

:Yeah, I defeated him recently and saw it and realized my confusion. I am familiar with the storyline (see [[MapleStory/Sakura Castle]] - I made that page), but I thought it was a naming error on Wizet's part. Thanks again. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 18:56, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
:That said, I am not sure how to deal with the class equipment pages. We can either link to each equipment page or set them up like templates and insert the tables onto both pages. Any thoughts? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 05:31, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

== Copyright vs fair use ==
== Theme Dungeon quest subpaging ==

For screenshots, sprites, item icons, etc. these things fall under fair use. I've never seen a game company get pissed about putting images up on a website. They would probably get mad if you started publishing a magazine with stuff in it. It's good to credit your source, just to be respectful. It also lets people know its legitimate or if you've made modifications or something. You can be as specific or as vague as you want. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:22, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
The Theme Dungeon page is too long and needs to be sub-paged. I think we should try to move them to the Theme Dungeon pages themselves. If the pages are too big, then we can move them to something like Mushroom Kingdom quests and put a link between parentheses in the Table of Contents.--{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 05:35, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

== Image categorization ==
:I was brainstorming some different ways we could do this, but anything elaborate will require us to move the quest section to its own horizontally laid out columns like we did for Jobs, Town,s Monsters, etc. I'm fine with that. I forgot how large our regional quests are. We could change the regional areas to level requirement sub-sections. So we would have an unclickable column header in bold like "Victoria Island" and bulleted links below like "Levels 1-30", "Levels 30-75", etc. We can either break them up into really small sections, which is not necessary, or - I just had a good idea - what if we broke them up into the levels that jobs take place in? E.g. 1-10 (pre-1st), 11-30 (1st), 30-75 (2nd), 75-120 (3rd), 120-200+ (4th). We wouldn't put the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. in the title or anything, but if we broke it up that way it would make sense more for players to focus on quests in their level range. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 19:51, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

When uploading images, please make sure to categorise them using the correct [[:Category:Images|image categories]] and the guide-specific category, i.e. '''<nowiki>[[</nowiki>Category:''Game Name'' images]]'''. Please see [[StrategyWiki:Guide/Image naming|our image policy]] for more details. Thanks for helping to keep our images neat! I will also take care of your Renaming/Deleting Requests tomorrow. [[User:Paco|Paco]] ([[User talk:Paco|talk]]) 21:24, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
::Thanks for the correction. I couldn't remember what the range was now. By town, were you thinking quests that start in Perion, Henesys, etc.? I think that is less important because there are only a few for a given level range and are completed quickly. Victoria Island as a whole has enough quests to keep players busy, and that's how I play the game - I always run around and grab all of the quests as they are available for me. There are also quests that take place on the roads outside of the towns. I would prefer sorting by level requirement over town simply because no one cares what town the quest is - they just want to know where to find it, how easy is it, and what is the reward. These are the metrics that we use to figure out whether or not spending our time on the act is worthwhile. It is primarily for power-levelers, but most people do not do all quests. I am only one of a few that try to do _all_ quests unbiased towards the rewards or difficulty. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:02, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Yeah.. I really screwed that up. I completely forgot about it. My mistake.
:::Argh, I didn't think Dolphin would cause problems. I use Monobook because it uses the full screen width. Dolphin is severely limited to like 600px width. I enjoy having more like 1000 to look at. I've been here long enough to know that our public theme is not permanent, so, I think we should stick to a single column layout to avoid theme preference differences. HOWEVER, to make the situation more complicated (sorry!!!), we do not have a policy of formatting all content for Dolphin, so I think we are ok to do single column layout, but I like double column layout. Thus, the two deciding factors here are 1) should we be making this content as best as possible for anonymous readers, or for ourselves (since every registered user can change their preferences). 2) To make everyone happy and keep a 2 column layout, readers will have to be tolerant of bumpiness. We can resolve both issues by changing to a single column layout. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 18:32, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

== Aswan (PQ/monster info) ==
::::Well, we voted on a solution that would work, but now that solution is broken/has a "bug". We either have to re-vote or switch to single column that is known to work. We might as well go with single column for now. It is easy to add columns later if someone wants to bring up the vote. I am no longer inclined to do so - I prefer the solution where everyone wins. 2-column is nice looking, but that is all. It is just used to save vertical space on the page. No one will oppose us if we go with single column layout. I will begin converting Warrior Skills. Sorry for all of this work, but I think we finally found a working solution we won't have to change around again - and we have the reasoning to back it up. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 17:06, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

I love Aswan, and have been wanting to create a page for it for over a month know. I just haven't had a good idea of how to organize it with the other pages. To me it's more like a mini-dungeon than a PQ, since it can be solo'd, but since it can be a PQ (and because of the Hilla branch of it), it should probably just be considered a PQ.
Just FYI, while I was daydreaming at work I figured out how we could add another parameter to add a fixed width for the columns. This would make it work in Monobook and wider-width themes. However, we would still have to use bump. I don't want to pursue it, but it is an option. Btw, I have been thinking of nominating you to become a sysop lately. I am patrolling your edits less and less without inspecting all of your work in detail, since I trust that it is superb, and I think so far our collaborations have been successful and cordial, which is all we really want around here. The main benefit is that your edits would be auto-patrolled. I don't know if you've been an admin on a wiki before, but there are hidden features that will be available to you after your permissions are upgraded. Patrolling is the main one, and it lets you look at the Recent Changes list and see if anyone has marked an edit as patrolled - it is an honor system among the admins where a patrolled edit is one that has been taken care of. I don't fully trust patrolled edits by non-admins, so I always double check them to see if something was missed, but it helps! It narrows down the list of "todo" significantly, but when you see it you will be overwhelmed by how much work there is left to do. Whenever I log on here I try to review as many edits as possible. Fight corruption! --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 22:02, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

This may be the time to do an overhaul on the PQ parts of the table of contents. I would prefer to expand the list to show each of the PQs individually, rather than have the large, ambiguously organized pages that we have now (e.g. competitive, boss, cooperative, battle). However, we could use those as headers in the table of contents, since they are a good way to classify the PQs. It's just a bad way to hide the information since they are not used in game so only people who dig through our pages will understand whats in them.

== About editing ==
And about Aswan, the thing is that there are a ton of monsters in Aswan, and I feel the PQ monster page would be too cluttered if I included it there. --[[User:PirateIzzy|PirateIzzy]] ([[User talk:PirateIzzy|talk]]) 19:16, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

:I don't think it needs to be split up into separate pages. [[MapleStory/Fight for Aswan]] should be the actual page, as it matches the dimensional mirror title. We'll just use five different level one headings (two equal signs) to separate the different modes. Each mode has four tiers of monsters, but the monster itself doesn't change, just its stats, so we could come up with a simplified table, if necessary, after all of the monsters have been added. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:32, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey PirateIzzy, thanks very much for reverting the vandalismm and blocking the offending IPs.  One thing to note (and don't worry, everybody makes this mistake at first) is that we try not to block IP addresses indefinitely.  You never know if that IP address will be assigned to someone else who might make good edits.  We do indefinitely block users who sign up solely for the purpose of spamming or vandalizing the site, so if the offender actually bothered to create an account, by all means, block them forever.  For IPs, just choose some period of time that you think is fitting.  By the time the block goes away, they usually stop bothering to try.  '''[[User:Procyon|<span style="color:red">Pro</span>]][[User talk:Procyon|<span style="color:grey">cyon</span>]]''' 20:39, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading the images! Are you updating [[MapleStory/Root Abyss]] or can I put some of the images on there now? They can be a pain to deal with sometimes and I'd rather be patient). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 19:31, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
== RED updates ==

Feel free to put them. I'm adding them to the Monster Database right now. And I actually haven't encountered one, surprisingly.
In order to do this effectively, we need a checklist. I can't keep track of what you have edited because you are so fast! I would probably do better to edit one of the other pages for now, but I don't have as much time as you. My time is better spent patrolling for now. The checklist would help you, too. I know you have a pre/post red list, but it would be better if there was a table that had a single column: updated. Then each row is the skill name. You could do separate tables for each class/job. After a skill is done, you change the table data from nothing or {{t|no}} to {{t|yes}}. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:46, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

:Good idea. Focus on updates first, then we can check our work. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 06:46, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

When it happens, it sucks. It happens when you're editing the page, but someone edits it first (usually with something small). Then when you go to submit it shows both versions of the page (yours, and the newest one that someone edited when you were unaware). So, basically what I do when that happens is copy all of my changes to a text editor, re-load the page so you have the newest one, and then re-add my changes. That's why I asked, since I'd rather be patient than frustrate anyone. Usually you don't have to ask because you can tell if someone is editing stuff, by checking the recent changes times (the time of editing is based on the server, so you have to compare other times to what time it is where you are). Anyways, thanks! --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 19:47, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
== Apologies for the data loss ==

== Cleanup ==
Hey PI, I saw your note to Prod, and I just wanted to apologize for any hard work that you may have lost. Believe me, we tried to avoid having to roll back, but the data on one of the server's drive arrays was too far corrupted to be considered reliable any more. If there was any way that we could have avoided it, we would have, but it just wasn't an option unfortunately. Again, I'm very sorry for losing some of your great work, but considering the recency of the backup, I'm glad that we didn't lose more than we did. I certainly understand your frustration. If there's anything we can do (short of a miracle) please let us know. Thanks PI.  '''[[User:Procyon|<span style="color:red">Pro</span>]][[User talk:Procyon|<span style="color:grey">cyon</span>]]''' 03:54, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
:I tried what I could to recover the database, but unfortunately the control data is what got damaged by the drive failure.  In the interests of getting the site back up and running/useful I had to restore from the latest valid backup we had.  I've kept a copy of the database files before I restored the databases, and I'm going to see if I can pull the latest changes out of them, but I can't make any promises.  Do you know the names of the specific pages that you modified so I can search for them directly? -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 05:34, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
::It's interesting that you mentioned using a text editor first. Lately, I have been using Google Drive for a similar purpose. I can create content when I'm somewhere where access to SW is blocked, and then I can copy/paste the content later on (and I don't have to worry about where I save it since it's on the cloud). I forget how frequently we perform backups, but I'm pretty sure it's once every 24 hours, so if I hold on to my content for a day, its safe to assume it was backed up. Again, thank you for all of your help. If you find a page that needs stuff done to it, you can add a brief description of the tasks at the top of the page using {{t|cleanup|Things to be done. Add the date here so we know how long ago the request was made.}} For example, on the Demon Slayer skills page you said images needed to be cleaned up, so that could be added in the cleanup tag with details. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 18:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
::No problem. You've been great to us, so whatever you want to do is fine. We haven't had more than a handful of Maple edits recently, besides yours. I hope MapleWiki gets better with your help. In the past I never really found it useful, because it was so out of date. Tis the problem with MMOs and patches. I would poke {{user|Prod}} for that info. No problem, and sure, that seems easier than writing it in the summary.

== Future Perion/KMS only monsters ==
Hey Izzy! I'm glad to hear from you. MS hasn't seen much developments, except for some changes to the basic party quests. Someone started adding info about "Cross world" versions. Check out Moon Bunny and First Time party quests. Otherwise things have not been updated much. I'm sure a new class and several events have come out. I actually re-downloaded the game myself recently because I wanted to play during the SAO events, but I missed it by a few days. I was really bummed about that. I recently re-did the table of contents a bit to make more space for party quests. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:37, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Until they are in GMS, they should not be added, as this is an exception to the scope of our guide here. Instead, you can put them, and any others, in sandboxes or subpages of your userspace. For example, [[User:PirateIzzy/Future Perion]] would be a fine place to put it. Just make sure you make a link to it on [[User:PirateIzzy]] so you don't forget about it. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 19:18, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
:I think I know what you're getting at, but I don't think that work is worth your time. It does not seem like a superior way to present the data. Thanks for coming back once in a while. I'll make sure to keep the MS guide polished!--{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 21:09, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

:No, see above. Unreleased monsters may never be released, or different versions may be added to GMS compared to others. It's best to wait. Yes you can remove fake bosses. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 00:25, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

They most likely will be released in GMS, since most KMS content does get released sooner or later. Plus, it's not like the stats are set in stone once I update them on the website, since they can be edited. But whatever works for you.
I've [http://strategywiki.org/w/index.php?title=MapleStory/Table_of_Contents&diff=787023&oldid=781845 added a few pages] to the ToC, can you verify that they're in the right place? -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 22:56, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

== Quests ==
== [[StrategyWiki:Featured_guides/Current_requests#Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar|Nomination]]: Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar for featured ==

The quests in MapleStory are rarely constrained to just the city map. Usually a chain of quests will take you to an NPC or two outside of the town but return you to the town, so where do you put those? On the town page... I've had a lot of trouble figuring out the best place to put them. Ariant is a good example, because the ring of maps behind the town are sort of isolated in a corner and obviously nothing but Ariant would be associated with those maps and NPCs there. A few quests are isolated to those desert maps, but we include them with Ariant because they would be impossible to find otherwise. We can't put all of the towns into one continental page because it would be ginormous, unfortunately. I mean we could, but I think it would be too slow to load. Feel free to make a sandbox page like [[User:PirateIzzy/Ossyria]] or whatever continent/area with your proposal. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:46, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

I recently completed the guide for ''[[Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar]]''. If there is an ''Ultima'' that deserves to be put under the limelight, this is the one. It is an absolutely unique game in history of role-playing video games. --[[User:Abacos|Abacos]] ([[User talk:Abacos|talk]]) 14:01, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Well, a variety of them are constrained, such as the new Victoria Island quest chains and most theme dungeons. I feel it would be more organized to separate them, even though it would create an influx of pages. I was mostly thinking Orbis on one page, El Nath on another, Lion King's Castle with its own, etc, as an example. But if you say so then I'll sandbox a page when I have time. --[[User:PirateIzzy|PirateIzzy]] ([[User talk:PirateIzzy|talk]]) 18:00, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

== Event monster redo ==

What do you mean by level header? Like, <nowiki>==Header==</nowiki>? Or, like the level value of all of the event monsters? Are you removing it because the level doesn't matter in most events? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:32, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
:Ah, yeah I see the bars now. I was probably the one who added them, but I agree that it's too much work and also the wrong way to implement them (normal headers would be better for indexing). Thanks for your help, as usual. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:32, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

== Deleting images ==

No, you have to be an admin. That way someone like you or a gang of vandals can't come in and delete our whole database. Just continue to mark things with {{t|delete|reason}}. Thanks. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:16, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
:I know how you feel. You've been a great editor, so it may be in our best interest to upgrade you. Admins here are expected to stick around and contribute to more than just one game that they may be a fan of, which is probably the one con people would find with you (as they haven't seen you try to help others or the wiki as a whole). We have had a few other MapleStory "Guardians" in the past, so I'm not saying it can't happen, I just think we should wait a bit. Luckily, Paco has been kicking butt with the [[:Category:Requests for deletion|deletion requests]]. Just let him know if there is anything that needs to be done. I don't have the time right now to check in all the time but I do usually once a week (more often lately), but feel free to shoot me requests, too. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:54, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

== Von Leon ==

Hi Izzy, I am trying to figure out how to place the boss info for Von Leon. Is there a non-transformed Von Leon fight, or only the one against the giant lion in The Lion King's Castle? Does [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NSFfF7I_0M this boss] appear at the end of the theme dungeon? Or is there some other way to fight him? If he's in the theme dungeon then I think I have it right - I redirected the boss content link to the theme dungeon page. Also, if he can just sit on the theme dungeon page we could probably remove him from the boss content section, which should be for non-theme dungeon raids. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 17:13, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
:Ok that makes sense. Thank you. Yeah we should put the Von Leon fight under the boss section and link between it and the theme dungeon where necessary. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 07:03, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

== Page naming - remove middle heierarchy (e.g. MS/Monsters/Page) ==

Hi PI,

So since you've been helping a lot I thought I'd educate you on something I haven't had time to do, but you can help with as you go along. Basically, our policy is that middle tiers/hierarchies in page names should not exist. Like, we don't want Game/Topic/Subtopic/Page to ever happen. So, when making new monster/quest/town pages for MapleStory, just make it simple like "MapleStory/Party Quest monsters" (note that the monsters should be lowercase due to our capitalization policy; Party Quest would be capitalized because it is a noun in the game). Basically, if you make a new page, just make sure it doesn't have an additional subpage. Don't worry about existing ones as I know that's a lot of work and it's something a cleanup person like myself should do. Thanks, --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 17:55, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

== Training locations ==

Yes, please centralize them. If there is a spot that is good for one class (e.g. a class that can hit multiple levels will not be good for a class that can only hit enemies on the same platform as them), it should just be noted next to it. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 02:25, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
:I was satisfied, as a player, with choice B. The tables are unnecessary on this page. We just need suggested level, monster name, and location. Suggested classes can have a few details related to efficiency, as mentioned in my first reply. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 01:56, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
::I recommend putting a simple link (e.g. <nowiki>*See [[MapleStory/Training locations|Training locations]] for where to power level.</nowiki>) to the training guide page under each job section since you're gonna be removing the training sections from the class pages (good idea!). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 03:40, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
:::No worries. I took care of it on the Thief page as a reminder. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 03:42, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

== Losing progress ==

Hey PirateIzzy.  Losing your cache when you hit back on the browser is a little browser dependent.  For example, I can hit back in Firefox or Chrome, and as long as I hit Forward without going to a different link, I don't lose what I had in the edit box.  Which browser and operating system are you using?  Maybe you could try some alternatives and see if you still have the same problem.  '''[[User:Procyon|<span style="color:red">Pro</span>]][[User talk:Procyon|<span style="color:grey">cyon</span>]]''' 00:30, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

== MS Sprite Ripping ==

I'm no good at extracting from the databases. I looked into it a bit, but didn't find a way to do it. I usually just copy from a different database or make my own sprite from a screenshot by deleting pixels. You can never get a good aura when you do this as those elements have transparency in game. I usually end up erasing them as I can't make them look good. I know it's not the best way, but it is sufficient as everyone can tell what it is by its face until we get a better image. Good luck on your search. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:44, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
:I might be able to do a few. Please don't waste my time with non-GMS sprites. You can upload screenshots here and in the description link it to this discussion (with <nowiki>[[User talk:PirateIzzy#MS Sprite Ripping]]</nowiki>). I will delete the screenshots afterwards. I recommend that you download [http://www.gimp.org/ GIMP] and begin learning how to do this yourself. There are thousands of image editing tutorials online to give you practice using the software. All I am going to do is crop the image to the sprite, and zoom in with the erase tool and erase everything around its border, then export as a .png file. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:34, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
::You can upload whatever images to StrategyWiki as long as they aren't too big. Then link me all of the file names. If I do a few, promise me that you'll try to do one or two. =) It would be great if you could learn. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 17:22, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
:::Like I said in my first comment, you should just find the border of the sprite and cut out the aura. The aura is impossible to copy via the photo editing method. You have to extract the image file from the .wz database to preserve the alpha channel (transparency) correctly, and I can't help with that. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 17:56, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
::::Wait, if you don't play MS anymore, then why are you helping with the guide? o_O I mean, I help, too, and I'm not playing right now, but I might play again in a year or two. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 18:12, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

== Major change to the MS guide ==

I will begin to remove all of the item pages from the ToC. I have come to the conclusion that this is an unnecessary part of the content that we provide, and unnecessary to our goal: to provide a good guide for players. No one cares about the specifics of quest items and such, and the database websites have those written down. People just want to know where to go, and what to do, and what items to look for, and how to be stronger. We have a decent quest guide, and we can keep that up. Items in the quest pages are fine, I just don't want to try to maintain appendices pages for all of the weapon types - this information can reside on individual class pages if people want to build them up (which makes sense because thats where they will be looking for information the most anyways). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:26, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
:To revise that statement, I am revising the scope. An official note will be put in the talk page of the main page. But basically, we do not need any information about specific events. General events are ok. Event info is the most volatile and temporary of all MS content. Secondly, we do not need drop icons or info. Equipment info is fine. Class-specific equipment is the easiest to work with and should be on the class walkthrough page. I don't think there should be a separate page for each class' equipment (no one fills those out). A chairs page is okay because chairs give stats and are actually useful. Plus, everyone collects them. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 18:26, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
::Yes, Paco doesn't play MS. Well, our whole problem has been 1) not enough editors, and 2) not enough representatives from all of the versions. If we don't limit the scope, we end up like MapleWiki, which has a very different layout and capability compared to our MapleStory guide, which is just a minor section of our wiki. The point is, we cannot accurately cover everything, nor give users the best experience here. Yes, we used to have a lot of traffic to our monster pages because they covered all versions of the game, but it will never be completed. A GMS-only guide can 1) not only be verified by our English editors (of which 95% of us have as our native tongue), but 2) be limited in scope to actually be completed. We are a strategy guide, after all. Not a database like Hidden-Street. MapleWiki could definitely use you, if you wish to pursue the database/description stuff. Content goes stale too often imo. Keeping it simple makes it easier for everyone here. Plus, a lot of stuff is trivial. Like the event items. They aren't even used anymore. Are there any pages I should not touch while you copy the content from them? I will not be messing with the monster pages. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:44, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
:::What items did you upload? I will be keeping all of the equipment, for sure. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:05, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
:::Also, take a look at http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Talk:MapleStory#MapleStory_guide_scope --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:05, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
:::I know my comments/ideas are a little over the top, but I have to think about all of these before I can decide what is best. The scope (linked above) lists all of my firm decisions. I have decided to keep items. In the past I was dismayed that no one helped make these before, but if we leave them people will update them. However, I have an idea to improve this process. What do you think about creating a column for these database lists that includes a "Last updated" column where we can put our signature? I think that would entice people to make changes (MapleStory players are very egotistical and would love to have their contributions known). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:52, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
:::What do you think about combining the MapleStory/Food and MapleStory/Potions pages? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:52, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
::::Well, at the moment, since you're the primary editor for the guide, I don't want to make you leave, so if your favorite part is adding new monsters, then I will allow it. It's better to have some active content going in then nothing at all. I mean, really, you have as much of a say in this as I do. I'm just trying to make the best '''strategy''' guide, while reducing how much work we have to do to maintain it. As a compromise, you can keep uploading non-GMS monsters, but why don't we create a new page for them? E.g. "New monsters", "Unreleased monsters", etc.? What page name(s) would you want? To be able to do what you want, but to keep it clear that they are not in the game? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 18:33, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I will help with the other changes you requested. Don't be afraid to edit [[Template:MapleStory/TOC/Quests]]. That's the one you were talking about, right (you didn't link it)?
<ul>
<li>Why remove Theme Dungeons from this template? They have quests.
<li>Are there no quests at Lion King Castle?
<li>Should we order the quest links alphabetically or by some sort of level order? I think alphabetical is the only way the order will make sense.
<li>I think Ellin Forest is a theme dungeon now, as the quest chain rewards you with a medal. However, it is difficult to determine what is a "theme dungeon". Basically, Mushroom Castle counts because they explicitly say it is a theme dungeon when you walk in. However, a similar message does not appear for any of the other ones (e.g. Kerning Square does not say "Theme Dungeon: Kerning Square..."). Note that a lot of these zones were isolated, e.g. Sakura Castle and Kerning Square. Kerning used to be a Taiwan-only World Tour-like zone (called Taipei 101) before it was brought to GMS. Ellin Forest is similar to these other zones because it is also a dead-end zone (like a cave). There is no secondary exit except for the one you came from. I don't care if it is included in theme dungeons or not in our guide, but it is very similar to the others. Even the way you get there is similar: an invite quest from Spiegelmann at Lv. 95.
</ul> --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:39, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

===Monster resistances===
The monster resistances are long out of date. At one point I think MS removed most of the elemental strengths of monsters, but I am not sure (I always played non-elemental characters). I don't think anyone cares about sorting by resistances. Are you thinking of redoing the page, or scrapping the page and just putting resistance info in the info column on the normal monster pages? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 17:16, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

:Yes, the elemental list and complete list should be combined. I updated the intro; neutral monsters should be listed with "neutral" next to its name, otherwise it looks like no one knows its elemental resistances.  I am changing the page name again to conform to our standards and break the double subpaged hierarchy (e.g. MapleStory/Monsters/whatever should not be used in the long run). --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:35, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

:The new page name is [[MapleStory/Complete monster list]]. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:20, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

== Archives and bots ==

To archive a page all you do is delete all of the content that you want archived. Then you go to the history, pull up the old page or diff and copy the URL. Put the URL on the current page in an archive box. There is {{t|archive}}, but I like the custom table I made a long time ago. You can copy it from my talk page.

I've been here for six+ years and no one has fully helped me out with bots. >_< I'm hoping someone will make a bot guide some time for the admins. First, you wouldn't be able to get bot access since you don't have admin privileges yet. Then, you have to create a new account for your bot (e.g. PirateIzzyBot; you can do this now if you want to reserve the name, but no guarantee that you will get priveledges). Then a bureaucrat has to give the bot account bot privileges. That's just the set up. Then you have to set up the bot on your end. I don't know where to begin. I thought AutoWikiBrowser was a bot for a long time, but all it does is find pages where a given search term is (and I never got it to work in a way that was reliable or made sense to me >_<). You can feed these results into a bot. Most bots are programmed by the people themselves. If you see someone with a bot (here or elsewhere) ask specific detailed questions on how you can get your hands on the tool(s) they use.

[[StrategyWiki:Guide/Regular expressions]] will help, too. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 15:24, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

:The bots are not active programs. They only run when someone tells them to, and they have to be programmed to specifically remove or add content. It would be faster to do it by hand if there is only one page where the monster info is and one page where the list is. However, what you want is a dynamic list across pages, which would not be safe to program or maintain since we allow public editing. That is one benefit to the MapleStory databases like Hidden Street. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 22:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

:To archive stuff, just delete it and tell me when you've done that and I'll do the rest the first time and give you specific instructions on how to do it in the future. Sound good? --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 22:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

MultiUpload[edit]

It was unfortunately not compatible with the newest version of MediaWiki, and I haven't been able to get it working. I'm looking into getting a newer (maintained) version working. Unfortunately, it's back to single uploading for now. Sorry about the inconvenience. -- Prod (talk) 01:32, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

I'll see if there are any settings I can mess with to make it more streamlined, but unfortunately the old one was getting a lot more difficult to maintain with each release (no updates in over a year). -- Prod (talk) 03:11, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
If you want to replace an image you will have to do it the normal way by going to the file page, then under the file history is a link labeled "Upload a new version of this file". --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:01, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

@ Notmyhandle (talk contribs), yeah, I've been doing that for a while. I just wish I could do so in bulk, though. --PirateIzzy (talk) 21:52, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

MapleStory/Shields and Off-Hand Weapons[edit]

The class-specific items on this page: MapleStory/Shields and Off-Hand Weapons should be moved to the class equipment pages. A note should then be added to the top of the page noting what classes cannot use shields (either because of restrictions or because their off hand is un-removable, like Mihile's shield). That would be a good way to get the class equipment pages started (they are the most common red-linked/non-existent page type at this time). As usual, this is not an order, but my opinion, so if you have any ideas please let me know =) --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 04:30, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. You are definitely our current MapleStory guide guardian (this is how I think of it). We really appreciate all your help.
That said, I am not sure how to deal with the class equipment pages. We can either link to each equipment page or set them up like templates and insert the tables onto both pages. Any thoughts? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:31, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Theme Dungeon quest subpaging[edit]

The Theme Dungeon page is too long and needs to be sub-paged. I think we should try to move them to the Theme Dungeon pages themselves. If the pages are too big, then we can move them to something like Mushroom Kingdom quests and put a link between parentheses in the Table of Contents.--Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:35, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

I was brainstorming some different ways we could do this, but anything elaborate will require us to move the quest section to its own horizontally laid out columns like we did for Jobs, Town,s Monsters, etc. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:51, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the correction. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:02, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Argh, I didn't think Dolphin would cause problems. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:32, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
Well, we voted on a solution that would work, but now that solution is broken/has a "bug". --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:06, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

--Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:02, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Adminship[edit]

Your nomination has been submitted. Please fill out the top half of the page, here: StrategyWiki:Requests for permissions/PirateIzzy. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 08:00, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Please sign after the line that says "Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:" --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:06, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
Yeah we need more people to vote. I will notify the others since it has been a few days. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:46, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Congrats on sysop permissions :). There's a guide, or feel free to ask any other sysops if you need help with something. -- Prod (talk) 04:37, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Congratulations! Let me know if you have any questions. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:04, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Holy cracker, I had no idea you'd been nominated. Congrats, and here's to hoping you keep on protecting MapleStory! :D --WarioTalk 18:20, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hey PirateIzzy, I feel that I owe you an apology and a very overdue congratulations. I should have commented on your nomination and promotion much sooner than now, but I've been extremely pressed for time lately. I have absolutely noted your commitment and dedication to the Maple Story guide, and adminship is a truly well deserved reward. Thank you for being such an outstanding contributor to the site, I'm confident that you will continue to be one of our top editors. Procyon 01:56, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

About editing[edit]

Hi, could I edit something like monster carnival on a template if MapleSEA releases it?Darrylpoh (talk) 10:05, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Dead Links fixing[edit]

You know about toolbox which is under navigation and search-box left (I don't know in which mode you browse SW)? well there is "What links here" which show you pages of which are linked to the choosed page. A Special:WhatLinksHere/MapleStory/Towns/Lith_Harbor. This help you to fix any red links which happens often after you move a Page. Paco (talk) 18:25, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Adding here, when you move files without a redirect, use the WhatLinksHere special page on the deleted page/redirect to fix redlinks. --Arseny1992 (talk · contribs) 05:56, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

You didn't need to remind me, I've done this plenty of times before. I was in the middle of a massive overhaul of the Mushroom Castle page when I moved that page name, which is why I didn't save it immediately. PirateIzzy (talk) 06:07, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
Ah ok then --Arseny1992 (talk · contribs) 07:49, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Blocking IPs[edit]

Procyon 20:39, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

RED updates[edit]

In order to do this effectively, we need a checklist. I can't keep track of what you have edited because you are so fast! I would probably do better to edit one of the other pages for now, but I don't have as much time as you. My time is better spent patrolling for now. The checklist would help you, too. I know you have a pre/post red list, but it would be better if there was a table that had a single column: updated. Then each row is the skill name. You could do separate tables for each class/job. After a skill is done, you change the table data from nothing or {{no}} to {{yes}}. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:46, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Good idea. Focus on updates first, then we can check our work. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:46, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Apologies for the data loss[edit]

Thanks PI. Procyon 03:54, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

I tried what I could to recover the database, but unfortunately the control data is what got damaged by the drive failure. -- Prod (talk) 05:34, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
It's interesting that you mentioned using a text editor first. Hope this idea helps you. Procyon 15:18, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
If I manage to get any data back, I'll do what I can to merge information. Otherwise, I'll just save it as a separate page (on like a subpage or a talk page) and you can take out whatever information you can. -- Prod (talk) 08:03, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
No problem. You've been great to us, so whatever you want to do is fine. We haven't had more than a handful of Maple edits recently, besides yours. I hope MapleWiki gets better with your help. In the past I never really found it useful, because it was so out of date. Tis the problem with MMOs and patches. I would poke Prod (talk · contribs) for that info. Most likely he was unable to recover any of it. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:22, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Welcome back[edit]

--Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:37, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

I think I know what you're getting at, but I don't think that work is worth your time. It does not seem like a superior way to present the data. Thanks for coming back once in a while. I'll make sure to keep the MS guide polished!--Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:09, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Pages missing from ToC[edit]

I've added a few pages to the ToC, can you verify that they're in the right place? -- Prod (talk) 22:56, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

If the features are no longer in the game, they should either be under a "no longer accessible section" or the pages should be deleted (if they were reworked into something else). Please mark any pages for deletion with {{delete}} if they aren't going to be used anymore. -- Prod (talk) 22:15, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Can I delete these pages? -- Prod (talk) 15:19, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! Ghost Ship and Ice Knight's Curse are still listed on Template:MapleStory/Versions/Accompaniments, should those be removed? -- Prod (talk) 14:32, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Nomination: Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar for featured[edit]

Long, long ago... Procyon asked me if I wanted to propose for "featured guide" one of my Ultima guides. I recently completed the guide for Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. If there is an Ultima that deserves to be put under the limelight, this is the one. The player can learn actual philosophy from it! All the game invites the player to improve him/herself in real life. It is an absolutely unique game in history of role-playing video games. --Abacos (talk) 14:01, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
