Controls[edit]

  • Selection Buttons: Use these two rectangular yellow buttons to select menu choices; in MAME they are replicated by the Ctrl and Space keys.
  • Decision Button: Use this round red button, which is positioned between the two Selection ones, to confirm choices (or change the viewpoint during gameplay, as it starts in 3rd-person view, but can be changed to 1st-person and behind in that order); in MAME, it is now replicated by the Alt key.
  • Foot Stands: Move the foot stands left and right while your feet are on them to direct the skier in those respective directions; by using the inner edge while doing so, the skier slows down and turns quicker. In MAME, the foot stands are replicated by the left and right arrow keys, while the inner edge is replicated by the up and down ones, meaning the emulator allows people who physically could not stand on the foot stands at the time to play too.

Skiers[edit]

The default protagonists for this game; in Race Mode, they race against several other CPU-controlled skiers and must cross the finish line first, and the time they have left to do it in gets extended each time they pass a checkpoint. However, for Time Trial Mode, they have to pass between the flags and cross the finish line in the fastest time, and the time they have left to finish will get extended by one second each time they pass between a pair of flags (and if they ever miss a pair of flags, they will not be disqualified, but it will prevent you from entering your initials on the "best-time" table if you finished fast enough to do so!) - and in a two-player game, the one-second time extension for passing through a pair of gates shall only apply to the player who passes through it (and if the distance between both players gets too close, the opposing skier will appear from both cabinets' monitors but return when the distance between the skiers is greater again). Also, if you ever tire of playing with one of the three default skiers, you can hold down both Selection Buttons while inserting a coin, then push either one by itself on the skier selection screen and the Decision Button to activate either Dr. Don from Point Blank (by pressing the left Selection Button before the Decision one) or Kuma from Tekken (by pressing the right Selection Button before the Decision one); however, they play the same as Racing and Mogul respectively (like how Penguin played the same as Skier #27 for the original Alpine Racer).
