In addition to crystals, the items you can collect within the levels are:

  • Wumpa Fruit: collect 100 of them to get an extra life
  • Aku Aku Mask: a mask of the sorcerer Aku Aku follows Crash and protects him in case of contact with an enemy, dissolving but preventing him from losing a life. By collecting two masks, double protection is provided. On the third collected mask, Crash becomes invincible for a short period of time, then reverting to normal double protection.
  • Crash Icon: worth an extra life

Boxes[edit]

Sometimes you'll find the mentioned items directly within the level, but most of the time these items are contained in boxes, which you'll have to break with one of your attacks to collect their contents. In the levels you will find many types of boxes, each with different characteristics. Sometimes these boxes can also be used to bridge gaps or reach otherwise inaccessible areas. By breaking all the boxes in a level, except the indestructible ones, you will get a gem. Some boxes may be well hidden and you will have to search them well.

The types of boxes that Crash can encounter are as follows:
