Before the mission[edit]

Your next goal will be to conquer the tower found on the continent to the east of the one you are exploring. Of course, to do that, you're going to have to convince the seaman to ferry you over, and he's unwilling to at the moment. Perhaps you can find a way to convince him on this continent's only other town, Tegza. To reach Tegza, you must leave Teodoor and follow the strip of land back to the east. When you reach the open land, head to the south. You'll have to cross another naroow strip of land as it bends to the west, but you soon reach a large desert. Head south across this desert and you will find the town of Tegza.

Town of Tegza[edit]

Tegza has some very expensive equipment for sale, and you're unlikely to have the cash on you to buy it all, but pick up what you can. Don't invest in armor, however. Instead, listen to what the lizard man in town has to say. He mentions his friend Zelos, which you also heard about in Teodoor. In fact, you may have already run into Telos, but didn't yet have the translation machine, and therefore the means to understand him.

If you speak with everyone in town, one of the old men will provide you with the means to convince the seaman at the eastern port to ferry you across the ocean. With this letter in hand, you can begin to make your way there, but before you do, it's a good idea to find this Zelos you've been hearing so much about.

  • OLD MAN: This is Tegza, the township in the desert.
  • OLD MAN: Welcome! You cannot gain passage aboard a ship, can you? Bring this letter with you.
  • WEAPONS MERCHANT: Some time ago, this area used to be beautiful but now it has become a desert!
  • HEALER: Did you hear that the mysterious man in the mask has a red body and horns?
  • SHOPKEEPER: Did you know that you need a translation machine to communicate with a lizard-man? You can find one in an eastern township.
  • GAO: Zelos of Teodoor has armor that is said to be the only one of its kind in the world.

The whereabouts of Zelos

A lizard man in Teodoor mentioned that his friend Zelos moved south. While Tegza is south of Teodoor, Zelos went even further south. It just so happens that Highria is south of Tegza. And just outside of Highria is a small forest. In that forest, you may have run into a lizard man who simply said, "Gao gao gao." Now that you have the translation machine, you can understand him. Find him and he says:

  • ZELOS (Highria forest): Do you understand the language? I would like to make friends with the townspeople of Highria, but they run away from me. What? Have you been to Teodoor? You are too kind! As a gift to you, I shall give you the most excellent armor!

True to his word, he will give you the Super armor, the best armor in the whole game. Equipped with this, you can at least stop worrying about saving up for expensive armor and focus on all the other expensive equipment in the game.

Reaching Shilf[edit]

Now that you have the letter from the old man in Tegza, the sea man at the eastern port will agree to ferry you over to the eastern continent. This continent is a veritable labyrinth composed of rivers that cut into it and divide it up into several thin sections. When you arrive on this continent, you may become quickly lost and unsure of how to make any progress and avoid dead ends. There is one pathway which can lead you to the only two locations of major interest here.

If you follow the west coast south, you will reach a point where there are three pathways that continue further south. The one on the far right is the only path that takes you anywhere worthwhile. It won't be long before that path branches. One branch goes north, and the other continues to the south east. Remember the north path for later, and follow the south east path. Continue working your way further south until a town comes into view. This is the town of Shilf.

Town of Shilf[edit]

Shilf doesn't have an expensive equipment store, but it has a number of other stores, some with very unique items. One such item is a must-have: the Magic Glasses. Purchase these for 500 gold so that you can finally see all of the invisible enemies that have undoubtedly frustrated you whenever you've encountered them. By activating the glasses in battle, you will be able to clearly see where they are and attack them or avoid their attacks. Another unique item are the Jump Shoes which allow you to leap in battle. This doesn't have a lot of practical uses in the game, but they will be necessary later on in order to attack an enemy whose weak point is above the ground.

  • WISEMAN: This is Shilf, the frontier township.
  • WISEMAN: There are two statues in the North Tower.
  • MAN: I have heard that there is a faraway land where the evil wizard transformed all the men into women.
  • GAO: The ancient wizard was an expert at transforming himself into the likeness of other people.
  • GAO: They have a pair of magic glasses in the Mad Scientist shop. You can use these glasses to see invisible things!
  • MAGE: There is a pair of sky shoes in the North Tower. I wish I had them!
  • MAGE: An elder in the township of Teodoor bought a translation machine.
  • HEALER: Somewhere, there is a Crystal of Truth that will reveal the real Phantom Tower.
  • WOMAN: Welcome! I will sell you a paper sword for 100 Gold.

North Tower[edit]

Once you've done your fill of shopping in Shilf, it's time to tackle the remaining curiosity on this continent: the North Tower. This tower can be found by taking the northern path when the pathway that lead to Shilf first branched. Follow that path as it bends around and over to the east coast of the continent, before heading straight up to the tower.

There are two statues in this tower which you must find and push to access the boss. To find the first one, there are three staircases that you can initially access from the first floor, but only one leads to the first statue. That staircase is not the one furthest to the left, but the lower staircase closer to the middle of the tower. It will lead you to a section of the second floor where the first statue can be found. Pushing it will open some of the doors around the center of the tower.

Return to the first floor and make your way into the middle of the tower, and take the upper left of the two center staircases to the second floor. Move down a room and climb the next staircase up to the third floor. The third floor is effectively divided into two halves. You must push the statue in the lower left half in order to access the upper right half where the boss can be found. Find and push this statue and then return to the first floor, cross over to the lower right staircase in the middle, and climb your way into the other half of floor 3, where you will ultimately find the boss.

The boss is fairly aggressive, but a healthy combination of arrows and sword slashes should undo the boss relatively quickly. After it's been defeated, walk up to the next room to find your prize: the Sky Shoes. These shoes will be the key to finding the next pivotal item that you need to complete your quest.
