Objectives[edit]

How to read the map[edit]

The map above is designed to help you understand how to navigate from one section to the next. Area 9 is composed of twelve rooms. Each room leads to another room in a non-linear way. When you arrive in a room, the entrance that you arrived through will always take you back to the room just came from. However, all the other exits will take you on to the room that's indicated on the map. For example, if you arrived in room B from room A, then returning south will take you back to room A, while taking the east exit will take you on to room D. However, if you arrived in room B from room F, then the east exit will return you to room F, while the south exit will take you to room G, as indicated on the map. To help you, this walkthrough will make the progression of rooms clear.

Defeat the Devil Furunguniru[edit]

The only objective of this area is to challenge and defeat the two bosses. However, you'll have to complete a couple of steps before the game grants you permission to enter their caves and fight them. In order to engage in the first battle, you must first visit the hut in room C. The only way to arrive there is through room F. From the start (room A), you should travel east to C, south to H, east to F, and north to C where you can visit the hut. After talking with the lady inside, return south to F, west to B, and south to G. This is where the first boss can be found. Through a glitch in the game, the cave entrance may not be immediately visible. You can either scroll visit another room and come back, or simply walk through the wall.

Here you will encounter Devil Furunguniru. He is challenging because he teleports all throughout the room. When he reappears, he walks in a particular direction, shooting fireballs at you. After a while, he will blink out of sight and reveal himself in some other location. There is an odd quirk to his behavior, however. If you occupy the lower portion of the room, he will follow you down there and become stuck. While he is still able to damage you quite a bit with his touch, his immobility allows you to get several sword strikes in before he disappears. If you go in with a healthy amount of hit points, you can survive the damage he deals while taking him out relatively easily along the bottom of the stage (don't go too far along the bottom, or the sides, as you can't swing your sword along the edges.)

Defeat the Great Devil[edit]

Once the Devil Furunguniru is defeated, the game is not yet over. It is time to solve the second riddle of the forest. From room G, head east to room I. Rooms I, J, K, and L are special. They are arranged in a square, and the music that will now play there is different from the other rooms. In fact, each room contains a snippet of the main theme that is played in the first area. In order to solve the riddle of the forest, you must visit the rooms such that you recreate the original tune of the game. To do so, start out in room I, and travel east to room J. However, the first refrain repeats itself a second time, so travel west back to room I, and east again to room J. Then travel south to room K and west to room L. When the song finishes, it repeats from the beginning, so you must travel north to return to room I again. Once you have done this, you have sufficiently recreated the original theme so travel south back too room L. Again, due to a graphical glitch, the entrance may or may not appear, but you can walk through the stone anyway if you are confident that you performed the right steps. (It is a good idea to summon Pipi and Popo before you enter the room)

In this room, the two fairies Pipi and Popo will transform into two blade which will combine to become the holy sword Psycho Calibur. (Then you will be asked to switch the disk to side 1). You will encounter the devil in his true form as the Great Devil. The Great Devil bounces about, breathing fire from his mouth and shooting lightning from his tail. His only weak spot is a point in his stomach above his tail. If you summoned the fairies before the battle, you may not be able to see them, but their effects will still be present for the regular duration. Try to throw some Wave Sword beams at the weak point before Pipi runs out of energy. Then get as close as you can to the weak spot and stab away until the Great Devil is defeated. If you succeed in this challenging battle, you will save the land and return peace to the country. Congratulations.
