Controls[edit]

  • Steering Wheel: Use the steering wheel to direct the vehicles left and right (just as you would any real car, jeep or truck); in MAME, this is replicated by the left and right arrows, but after the Turbo Activator (which can now only be used three times per stage) has been pushed, the vehicles become harder to steer, due to the fact that they have accelerated to an incredible speed (especially the truck, as it has a twelve-wheel trailer behind its cab).
  • Gas Pedal: Step on the pedal to accelerate the vehicles; in MAME, it's replicated by Ctrl by default but you may wish to change it to the up arrow. A break pedal is also present on the sitdown cabinet and replicated by Alt by default in MAME (but you may wish to change it to the down arrow).
  • Gear Shifter: Use the shifter to change the gear the vehicles drive in; in MAME it's replicated by pressing and holding Shift to shift into high gear by default (then letting go of it to shift back to low gear again), but you may wish to change it to Alt. Pushing the shifter's Turbo Activator will also, for a maximum of three times per stage (which are now indicated by the three "nitro" symbols in the bottom-right corners of the vehicle dashboards, and as mentioned above, it is no longer possible for arcade owners to increase the amount of uses to five!), accelerate the vehicles to an incredible speed for a few seconds - and in MAME, this switch is (again) replicated by pressing Space by default, but you might wish to change it to Ctrl.
  • Start Button: Push this button to start the game; as with several other racing games that do not support link plays, this game is for one player only.

Patrol Vehicles[edit]

For the first, third and fifth stages, the red Nissan 300ZX T-Top Turbo from S.C.I. is the vehicle of the protagonists Tony Gibson and Raymond Broady (also known as Mr. Driver), but for the second stage they'll switch to a four-wheel-drive jeep and for the fourth one they'll switch to an eighteen-wheeled articulated truck; the player must once again help them catch up with various criminals' cars which are indicated by an arrow with the text "REMAINING: X" (X starts at 16, and it decreases by one every time the car is rammed) appearing above them once they are caught up with, then ram them until they are too damaged to keep going (while avoiding contact with all the other vehicles as they will cause their own ones to spin out or go off the track, which costs time), and all within a stage-specific time limit (that is determined by what the arcade operator has set the "TIME SETTING" setting in the game's options menu to). As with the custom black Porsche from Chase H.Q., all three vehicles also have a Turbo Activator which may be used to make them accelerate to an incredible speed for a maximum of three times per stage (this also applied to the Nissan 300ZX for all except the sixth stage of S.C.I., but the amount of uses on Stages 1-5 could be upped to five) - and it must for the third time be used wisely to catch the criminals before time runs out.
