Before You Proceed[edit]

With the Elixir and a few more levels, now would be a good time to tackle some of the extra fights from earlier. In Pyreglow Forest, you can imprism the Magic Jar by giving it the Elixir you picked up, and snag a Sharqual from the Murkrift as well. Returning to Icicle Ridge, you should also be able to pick up a Mini Flan from the Murkrift, provided you bring an All-Target magic attack (the element doesnt matter, although fire is most effective.)

Coliseum[edit]

Two new challenges are now available. You should be able to complete the first level of Beastly Burden, although it might still pose a bit of a challenge for you if your level is too low.

Upon entering the town, Tama comments that the whole area has a Threshold around it. Afterwards, go around and talk to the two townsfolk with a "!" above their heads. Head down to the slums and do the same with the one here.

It turns out that Saronia recently came under Federation control, a statement that Lann and Reynn seem surprised to find out, even though Yuna told them as much when she saw them. For now, Lann suggests heading to the Thane about the League of S.

Save and prepare for a boss fight with no weaknesses. Approach the castle and you'll see Refia arguing with the guards. Turns out they won't let her through. Apparently, they won't let you through either. Reynn shows the letter Princess Sarah gave them, and the guards start whispering among themselves. They decide that its not worth the risk to send you away, so they reluctantly convene with the Thane, who agrees to see you. Refia attempts to join you, but is halted briefly by the guards until the twins say she's with them.

You finally meet with the Thane... but he seems a bit off. He seems to talk very positively about the Federation, saying that it would appear they finally gave up and just invaded Cornelia, before wondering if you are here to ask for his help. Reynn starts to respond but Refia jumps in and demands to know who the Thane is. The Thane attempts to say he is her uncle, but she refuses to hear any of it, saying "You are not Uncle Takka!". Acknowledging that Refia has seen through his disguise, he reveals that Refia must be a Medium, and that he was wise to make her leave town. Demanding again to know where the real Thane is, he implies he always has been the real Thane, but speaks very weirdly, saying "not just any Medium, but one that bleeds the same blood as this body", really selling the whole "I'm the real Thane" bit. He states that this must be more than fate, this must be destiny, before he throws off his disguise, revealing himself to be a Federation Guard, and proceeds to attack you immediately.

This fight isn't too hard, just wail on him with -ara spells and heal when necessary. He likes to use Venom Lance and Bravery, which will poison you and increase his physical damage, respectively, as well as use a really powerful attack that almost guarantees a topple.

After beating him, he will re-forge himself, and slowly advance towards the twins, preparing for another round of combat, possibly an endless one, but we will never know, for he is soon attacked by Segwarides, the Knight in the Golden Mask. Why is he being introduced to you as that title, you literally just heard his name? Oh well, regardless, he calls the fake Thane a fool, to allow a Medium become a Champion. His rage reaching a boiling point, he summons six glowing arrows of light, and targets them towards the twins. Before he is able to launch them, however, he is hit in the back by a powerful blast. The camera pans to the window, and we see... a cat? The cat then tells you to come that way. Hold on, the cat TALKS? She summons another fireball and hurls it off-screen, presumably towards Segwarides, and the twins quickly set aside their questions and take her advice, leaping out the window after her. Segwarides rises up and proceeds to give a mysterious rambly monologue about fate, and the camera fades away on him evilly cackling to himself.

You later see the twins and Refia in the slums with the cat, whom Refia calls Sherlotta, and sure enough the cat transforms into Sherlotta, who says she "just knew you would get yourselves into trouble, and boy did you prove me right". Nice to see you too. She proceeds to hand the twins a pair of monocles, telling them to put them on. The twins do as told, and discover the whole town is surrounded by giant black chains going up into the sky and fading into the clouds. Sherlotta tells you that from what she was told, every member state in the Federation has these chains, although she does not know why. Upon hearing that you are looking for the League of S, Sherlotta reveals she knows people in Saronia who can pass along a message to the League. Refia says your next bet is to head to the Low Seas, which means you have basically no choice but to go try to find a boat down at the docks. Sherlotta offers Refia some solace back at the inn, stating that now that the wolves have been taken care of the only thing to worry about is the cold. Refia complies, saying she needs some time to digest the business with the Thane. They both bid you farewell in your adventures, and take their leave. Exit the area to finish the chapter.
