Final Fantasy is the first game in Square's now long line of Final Fantasy games. It was originally released for the Famicom in December of 1987. Nearly three years would pass before the game was finally translated into English and released on the NES. It was created as the last ditch effort of Squaresoft in the hopes of making money. If it had flopped they would have been forced to declare bankruptcy and leave the gaming market, but it managed to be a hit both in Japan and the US.
