You need a Rainbow Wing to get into the Tin Tower. In Silver version you need to wait until Pewter City to get it while in Gold you get the Rainbow Wing from the Director after Team RocketIn Crystal you need the Clear Bell in order to get into Tin Tower, like Gold this is obtained from the Director after beating Team Rocket in Goldenrod. In Silver, you will get the Silver Wing from the Director with which you can go to the Whirl Islands to catch Lugia.

If you're playing Gold, you will get the Rainbow Wing in Johto. If you're playing Silver, a monk will block the stairs on the first floor and you won't be able to continue up until you get the Rainbow Wing in Kanto.

Here, you will have a chance at catching Suicune! Go save at the first bit then battle the 3 Sages for the right to go in, then save at the entrance to the tower then go in, you will see all 3 Pokémon and they will all run away (Crystal) Suicune attacks you, this is your only chance to catch it in Crystal so give it your best shot, use the Ultra balls if you have to, you can get some more of those but there is only 1 Suicune. Now you can catch the others in the grass, they are 1 of a kind but they run every time you see them, click [[Pokémon Gold and Silver/The Three Legendary Beasts|here]] for advice on how to catch them.
This Ecruteak tower has much easier enemies than Lugia's {{~|Whirl Islands}} dungeon, but it is far more complicated to negotiate.  Floors 3 through 6 are full of one-way ramps, and to get to the 6th floor, you'll need to come up from the ladder near the upper left corner, and hop down a series of platforms to the left of the Rare Candy found in the middle of the 5th floor.

==Pokémon found==
The three final floors have teleport squares that can be confusing without a map.  Start with the square at the bottom of the 7th floor, and follow the sequence until you reach the stairs to the roof on the ninth floor.

Now you start your new adventure, of which the main goal is to catch Ho-Oh. But how can you do that? This is not as easy as you think, and you cannot do it immediately. If you want to start this long journey, you must fulfill two conditions (Crystal version):
|-
#You must catch all three Legendary Dogs - Suicune, Entei and Raikou and have them in your team.
| [[File:Pokemon 250Ho-Oh.png|right]] As with {{bp|Lugia}}, {{bp|Ho-oh}}'s level will depend on which version you are playing. In Gold, it will be level 40, and it will start with Sacred Fire. In Silver, it will be level 70, and in Crystal, level 60, where it can't use Sacred Fire, but it does start with Fire Blast. Also like Lugia, Ho-oh can stay in battle forever with Recover. The difference is that Ho-oh is Fire/Flying, while Lugia is Psychic/Flying, and Ho-oh is stronger while Lugia is faster and a bit tougher. When you catch it, your Ho-oh will come with the "Sacred Ash" item.
#You must defeat the Elite 4 and meet Eusine in Pokémon Center in Celadon City (Kanto region).
|}
If you do all of that, go to the Tin Tower again and talk with Head Sage. After the conversation, a staircase appears nearby.
==Ho-oh on top==

The Legendary Bird, Ho-oh, is on the Tower's roof. Ho-oh will be at level 40 in Gold, and level 70 in Silver. Save your game when you get to the rooftop, and be sure to have plenty of Ultra Balls on hand, and maybe a few Potions, Revives, and other helpful items. You can use the Escape Rope, Dig or Fly to leave the Tower quickly.
Then follow the hints below:
*Go up, then come to the front of that room, and climb the stairs. You'll find the beginning of the maze. There are lots of one-way jumps, and telepads.

'''3rd floor''': Take one jump to the right, walk up, take two jumps to the left and walk around the center of the tower, take two jumps to the left, walk up, and take 5 jumps to the right, and up the stairs. (This floor pretty much gives itself)

'''4th floor''': Walk down, do NOT jump directly below the stairs, but instead jump twice to the left, and one down. You are now standing at the center of the tower. Walk around this, and jump twice, and take the stairs up.

'''5th floor''': Walk up, jump twice to the right, and then jump down. (There is an option to jump all the way to the right here, so pay attention). Now, jump twice to the left (one jump more to the left would send you back to the stairs) and then three times down. Walk one step to the right, and continue by jumping down twice. Now, two jumps to the right, one jump down and get up the stairs.

'''6th floor''': Walk straight up to the center of the tower (only opportunity so far here), walk to the right, up and to the left. Now walk down, and jump down twice, then up the stairs. (pretty straightforward this floor, it really can't be done wrong).

'''7th floor''': Walk up, and then right, past the first teleport (The red thingy on the floor), and take the two jumps to the right. Take the 2-cell wide jumps downwards (4 jumps all-in-all). Walk to the left, and take the teleporter in the bottom.
From here, the path to the top is straight-forward, only one choice at any point.
Walk straight down to the next teleporter, take it, and walk left-down from here to the next teleporter. Walk up, then left, to the next teleporter, around the center pillar, and up the stairs.

At the roof you will find the legendary bird, Ho-Oh. It is Level 60 and very strong. Its moveset is: Gust, Recover, Fire Blast and Sunny Day. The best strategy is to use Pokémon who can put Ho-Oh sleep, because Ho-oh can restore half of its Life (about 100 HP). Your team should be composed like so:
#Have two different type of Pokémon, each with a move that can put Ho-oh to sleep.
#Pokémon with False Swipe move.
#Gastly/Haunter/Gengar with Hypnosis, Dream Eater and Nightmare
#Other Pokémon.

Try to take down as much HP as possible and then use an Ultra Ball. A Heavy Ball should work well, too (or even better), because the weight of Ho-Oh is over 400. You can try to use a Master Ball too.

The Legendary Bird, Ho-oh, lives on the roof of the Tin Tower. You can't go up the Tower without the Rainbow Wing, which you will get from the Radio Station Manager in Goldenrod City in Gold, from the old man in Pewter City in Silver, or from the guardians of Tin Tower (after you've caught Suicune, Raikou, and Entei) in Crystal.

Ascend the tower

Crystal changes
If you're playing Crystal, the stairs on the first floor won't even be there until you've beaten the Elite Four and caught Suicune, Raikou and Entei to get the Rainbow Wing. However, after the Template:~ event, you can trigger a new Suicune event when you Template:~.

If you're playing Gold, you will get the Rainbow Wing in Johto. If you're playing Silver, a monk will block the stairs on the first floor and you won't be able to continue up until you get the Rainbow Wing in Kanto.

This Ecruteak tower has much easier enemies than Lugia's Template:~ dungeon, but it is far more complicated to negotiate. Floors 3 through 6 are full of one-way ramps, and to get to the 6th floor, you'll need to come up from the ladder near the upper left corner, and hop down a series of platforms to the left of the Rare Candy found in the middle of the 5th floor.

The three final floors have teleport squares that can be confusing without a map. Start with the square at the bottom of the 7th floor, and follow the sequence until you reach the stairs to the roof on the ninth floor.

As with Lugia, Ho-oh's level will depend on which version you are playing.
