Normal Items

These are the items that may appear in any kind of brawl:

Assist Trophy

Assist Trophy

Assist Trophies are a breed of new items that are very similar to Poké Balls. They send out various characters from different games to attack other players or to help you in some way. Some characters will hinder you, however. A complete list of known Assist Trophies are listed here.

Banana Peel

Slip over a banana and fall down

Another new item for Brawl, it simply won't let you run freely on the stage.

Beam Sword

Beam Sword

The beam sword is back, but now longer than before.

Blast Box

Blast Box

These explode when hit with a fiery or sufficiently powerful attack or with a fire-based attack.

Bob-omb

Bob-omb

These walking bombs return from Melee.

Bunny Hood

Bunnyhood

Returning from Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Bunny Hood from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will increase the speed and will let the character who wears it to jump really high.

Bumper

The Bumper from the original SSB

Nine years have passed since Super Smash Bros. was released, and with SSBM some items were forgotten. Well, now is the time for all the ones who didn't have SSB to use this veteran item. The Bumper is the closest thing to a pinball game and you can place it on the ground or in the air. If you hit it you will bounce to the other side.

Capsule

Capsule

Capsules may have an item inside or may explode when thrown.

CDs

CD

CDs appear in every game mode, and add new music to be selected when taken. However, CDs don't stay around very long, so grab them once they appear.

Cracker Launcher

Cracker Launcher

Another new addition, the Cracker Launcher shoots off fire crackers that explode. The Launcher can be aimed up and down for the best firing angle. This gun-item also has the ability for the user to walk around and jump while firing.

Crates and Barrels

Colorful stages' crates and barrels

The crates and barrels have appeared since the first Super Smash Bros. Barrels from all Smash Bros. have had various amounts of different items inside each. You can get the items by throwing the box or crate, beating it up, or pushing it off a higher area to a lower area. Some added features in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is that the basic box style changes for each level, so you can have space boxes in a Star Fox level, or have presents in a Yoshi's Island level. Another added feature in Brawl is that boxes will slide downhill.

Deku Nut

Deku Nut

The Deku Nut can be used to stun opponents. However, you can also stun yourself if you are too close to the impact.

Dragoon

Dragoon

The Dragoon is an aircraft from Kirby Air Ride. This item is broken into three parts:

  1. The nosecone.
  2. The hull.
  3. The tail.

This is an extremely powerful item, if you collect the three parts you will aim to any opponent and fire yourself, making a one-hit KO. The parts you've collected are shown in the left, upper corner of your characters picture. You are able to steal Dragoon parts every time you hit your opponent, also if you lose a life all your Dragoon parts will drop.

Fan

Fire Flower

Only press and hold a button to unleash a fire flame.

Food

Food

The various food items restore different amounts of health.

Franklin Badge

Franklin Badge

The Franklin Badge, from Earthbound, reflects projectiles much like Fox's Reflector move, but automatically. The Franklin Badge wears off after a certain amount of time.

Freezie

Freezie

Pick up and throw it against an opponent to freeze them for a while. They have become much more durable than from Melee.

Golden Hammer

Golden Hammer

Like a normal Hammer, but more powerful and allows the holder to hover in midair.

May be look-alike Golden Squeaky Hammer that does not cause damage.

Gooey Bomb

Gooey Bomb

The Gooey Bomb is an item sort of like the Motion-Sensor Bomb, except that it can stick to characters as well as the level. One of the bad factors of this item is that if you throw it on someone, they can run into you and make the bomb stick to you.

Green Shell

Green Shell

Attack or throw it to send it sliding across the ground, damaging anyone it hits.

Hammer

Hammer

Seen in the Golden Hammer update, the Hammer allows the holder to cause massive damage, just like in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It may drop its head and become useless.

Heart Container

Motion-Sensor Bomb

Motion-Sensor Bomb

As in the previous games, the Motion-Sensor Bomb can be planted on walls or floors, and it will explode when someone comes near it. While the Motion-Sensor Bombs in the previous games were taken from GoldenEye 007, a game developed by Rare, in this game it's been redesigned as an original item, most likely because of Rare's acquisition by Microsoft.

Screw Attack

This item enables its user to perform a Screw Attack, similar to Samus's Up Special Move. Now it functions like a badge.

Smart Bomb

Smart Bomb

If you have played a Star Fox game you will probably recognize this item. When the smart bomb is thrown, it will burst and cover almost all the stage, but sometimes it won't explode. Be careful when throwing it because it also damages the character who threw it.

Smash Ball

Smash Ball

To unleash a Final Smash:

  1. Destroy a shield it has surrounding it.
  2. Touch the Smash Ball.
  3. Press the Special Move button to release the Final Smash (this is only for some characters, others unleash the Final Smash immediately).

Since these items are very rare, they do extreme damage to enemies who come into contact to the character who received the Smash Ball's attack. There is also an additional move named Pity Final Smash that is enabled when any character is losing considerably and is KO'd. The character will reappear in the Final Smash standby mode. A complete list of known attacks is listed here.

Smoke Ball

Smoke Ball

The smoke ball does not cause any damage, but instead obscures the screen with a cloud of smoke. Smoke balls may be carried and thrown.

Team Healer

Team Healer

The team healer is an item that only works in team battles. You pick it up and throw it to a teammate so when you hit him, he will regenerate health. The higher the damage meter, the more recovery. Be careful when throwing it so you don't hit an enemy and replenish his health.
