At the beginning of the game, like all games, shows an introduction screen, and like in all games, there is a Pokémon Professor introducing you to the Pokémon world, this time its Professor Birch. As in Pokémon Crystal ,you get to choose whether you want to be a boy or a girl. After choosing your gender you can choose your name. In Ruby and Sapphire you can choose from four names or write your own, but in Emerald there are no pre-made names.
Once you have done this you find yourself in a moving truck headed for your new home in Littleroot Town. You'll see a light to the right of the truck. Go out an your mom will tell you that you've moved into Littleroot Town. Go in the house and there will be Pokémon movers bringing in the furniture. Go upstairs into your room to set the clock.
