''This is the first game in the '''Croc''' series. For other games in the series, see [[Croc category]].<br/>For the Game Boy Color iteration, see [[Croc (Game Boy Color)]].''

Croc was initially released for the PlayStation in 1997 in North America.
To reach Baron Dante, Croc must travel through four islands: Forest Island, Ice Island, Desert Island and Castle Island. In each island there are six regular levels and two levels at the end of which you will encounter a boss. The levels must be faced in a pre-established order. Only after completing a certain level will you be able to access the next one. Once a level has been completed, however, you can re-enter it whenever you want (this is useful, in case you have forgotten to take some Gobbos). The two boss levels are always one after the first three regular levels and one after the other three, at the end of the island. If you manage to find all the Gobbos in all three levels preceding a boss level, after defeating the boss, you will be led to a secret level. Here you can recover a piece of a special puzzle. There are therefore eight puzzle pieces in all to be found. If you manage to get them all, you will be rewarded with a fifth bonus island: Crystal Island. Here you will find four particularly challenging levels and at the end you will face the spirit of Baron Dante.
The game saw heavy advertising in the form of being a "Mario killer".

Note: There are no Gobbos to save and no colored crystals in the boss levels, secret levels, and Crystal Island levels. You will simply have to get to the end of them.

Note: There are no Gobbos to save and no colored crystals in the boss levels, secret levels, and Crystal Island levels. You will simply have to get to the end of them.
