Rolling Thunder marquee

Template:Series disambig Rolling Thunder is a run and gun arcade game that was released by Namco in 1986 and licensed to Atari Games for US manufacture and distribution. It runs on Namco System 86 hardware.

The player must take control of "Albatross", a member of Interpol's "Rolling Thunder" espionage unit whose mission is to save a missing female agent, "Leila Blitz", from a terrorist organization named "Geldra" located somewhere in New York City. He begins the game armed with a standard-issue pistol, which can be substituted with a fully-automatic machine gun that allows for continuous firing by holding down the fire button. Extra ammunition for both weapons can be obtained by entering doors marked "bullets" or "arms". Despite the presence of a life meter, Albatross can only take two physical hits from the enemy as a single hit will drain half of the meter - and a hit from a bullet or other projectile will result in an instant death.

This is the first game in the Rolling Thunder trilogy. It was followed by two sequels: Rolling Thunder 2 (1990) and Rolling Thunder 3 (1993). The Capcom game Code Name: Viper and the Sega game Shinobi also feature similar gameplay to this series.
