Mobility

  • Neutral control: Moves the board.
    • Left control or Right control: Steer the board to the left or right.
    • Down control:"Edge" the board (move it perpendicular to the line of movement) and brake.
      • DownLeft control or DownRight control: Make sharp turns while edging.
    • Up control: Push off from a still position; it can be used the start of a race or after falling.
  • Neutral cstick: Adjusts the camera.
    • Up cstick/Down cstick: Zoom in/out
    • Left cstick/Right cstick: Pan the camera.
  • A button: Jump. Press and hold to display the jump meter; a circle that fills up the longer you hold A. For the highest jump release A when the meter is full; note that holding A for too long will cause the meter to reset and the jump to be minimal.
  • L button: Tuck the boarder to make them more aerodynamic; increases acceleration and top speed but decreases turning ability. If falling, press L button just before landing to absorb the shock.
  • R button: Performs a 180° spin on the ground, thus switching between a normal and switched stance.

Regaining Balance

If you land badly (i.e. land without pressing L button or unparallel with your motion) you will lose your balance and a balance meter will appear; spin the control stick NeutralSpin control in any direction until you regain your balance. Note that your balance is lost exponentially so it progressively becomes more difficult to regain. If the meter is drained your boarder will fall.

Tricks

Rotations

The following apply while in mid-air:

  • Neutral control + R button: Rotates the boarder and causes slow motion in single player.
    • Rotating the control stick clockwise ClockwiseSpin control will rotate the boarder to the right.
    • Rotating the control stick counter-clockwise CounterClockwiseSpin control will rotate the boarder to the left.
    • Pushing the control stick up Up control will cause the boarder to perform a front flip.
    • Pushing the control stick down Down control will cause the boarder to perform a back flip.

Grabs

Note that grabs also have the "switched" prefix if performing it in a switched (opposite stance of the rider's default) stance; thus a switched method can be performed if you spin 180° when you are able to perform a method (you can keep spinning to switch between the tricks). The following apply while in midair:

  • B button: Performs a Mute.
  • B button + Left control:Performs a Method.
  • B button + Right control:Performs a Stalefish.
  • B button + Up control:Performs a Lien Air.
  • B button + Down control:Performs a Seatbelt.
  • X button: Performs an Indy.
  • X button + Left control: Performs a Flying Squirrel.
  • X button + Right control: Performs an Indy Nosebone.
  • X button + Up control: Performs a Rocket.
  • X button + Down control: Performs a Tail Grab.
  • Y button: Performs a Melanchollie.
  • Y button + Left control: Performs a Tweaked.
  • Y button + Right control: Performs a Roastbeef.
  • Y button + Up control: Performs a Crail.
  • Y button + Down control: Performs a Japan Air.

Grinding

  • L button: Begin grinding when your board touches objects like rails and logs.
  • Left control/Right control: Control balance.
  • A button: Dismount object.
