Castelvania: Curse of Darkness is a direct sequel to Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (1989, NES). It has been three years since Dracula was been defeated by Trevor Belmont and his allies, but his curse remains. Europe is a wasteland of death and destruction. During this time, a Devil Forgemaster by the name of Hector, who left Dracula's army durring the war, seeks revenge against another Forgemaster, Isaac, who remained loyal to Dracula and had Hector's lover killed in retaliation.

Gameplay

see Castlevania: Curse of Darkness/Gameplay for more

As a "Devil Forgemaster", Hector is a master of all weapons - swords, spears, axes, and even his fists. He can create weapons and armor by combinging raw materials and other equipment. In addition he can bring "Innocent Devils" to life - creatures that will fight along side him, as well as help out in other ways.

The gameplay is very similar to Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, though the combat system has been revamped since Hector does not use whips or special items. By repeatedly pressing the Square button button, you can hit repeatedly, and by ending the attack with the Circle button button, you can end the sequence in a brutal combo that inflicts more damage on enemies, and sometimes over a wider area. The specific attack depends on the weapon and how many time the circle button was pressed during the combo.
