StrategyWiki:Cleanup project/Long term tasks

The StrategyWiki cleanup project aims to improve the quality of writing, templating, categorising and layout in every article in the wiki to attain better consistency throughout. A lot of our work stems from discussion of new ideas on the forums.

Periodic tasks

• Fix all pages with:
  • broken redirects (last done on March 17, 2009)
  • double redirects (last done on March 17, 2009)
  • missing nums (last done on March 17, 2009)
  • missing Header Navs (last done on March 17, 2009)
  • subpage nums (last done on March 17, 2009)

• Categorise:
  • all uncategorised categories — only the 11 core categories should remain; those are currently: Companies, Dates, Engines, Games, Genres, Guides by completion stage, Miscellaneous, Modes, Official pages, Series, Systems (last done on January 11, 2009)
  • all uncategorised main pages (uncategorised pages list)/uncategorised main pages (pages needing categorisation category, 135 pages)
  • files in the file list (last done through letter "S") / uncategorised images (last done on August 27, 2008)
  • all TODO lists without a priority (0 TODO lists)

• Check for bad/duplicate:
  • unused categories
  • unused files
  • wanted categories, and create the other categories (571 pages on 03/19/09)
  • wanted pages (5639 pages on 05/10/06)
  • redirects

• Add:
  • links on dead-end pages (last done on September 7, 2008)
  • links to lonely pages
  • rename template to images
  • rename template to pages
  • boxart to pages needing box artwork (if the game never came in a box, a logo or screenshot will do, 586 pages)
  • transparency to all images needing transparency (1 images)

• Remove:
  • references to deprecated templates (0 templates)
  • deprecated template usages from pages (13 pages)
  • duplicates of general templates in guide-specific templates (520 templates)

• Rename:
  • templates to sensible, standard names in guide-specific templates (520 templates)
  • any pages needing renaming (2 pages)

• Deal with:
  • pages with possible copyright violation (2 pages)
    • Add sources to pages marked with copyvio with no source provided (1 pages)
  • requests for deletion (92 pages)
  • any images in Category:Guide-specific images

• Clean up:
  • pages containing drivel (180 pages)
  • pages lacking control images (57 pages)
  • pages needing cleanup (898 pages)
  • pages needing wikification (397 pages)
  • pages to be merged (27 pages)
  • pages containing spelling mistakes

• Expand:
  • stubs (7,141 pages)
  • works in progress (29 pages)
  • pages needing an infobox (175 pages)

Ongoing tasks

• Categorize pages: (All games)
  • according to multiplayer or single player
  • according to year and day of release, using years and days
  • according to developer, producer and hardware
  • according to genres
  • according to series
• Categorize images (Uncategorized images)
• Add infoboxes to every guide
• Add {{Header Nav}} to every guide page
• Add game art and images to pages where appropriate
• Patrol every edit

Specific tasks

• Ensure all policies and guidelines are documented in StrategyWiki:Guide
• Clean up these guides and makes sure all are filled with the information imported from other wikis:

• Simply clean up these guides/pages:

  • Ragnarok Online

  • Total Annihilation
• Integrate information from a page dump into the other pages (please check whether the dumps are a copyvio first, then integrate via rewrite if need be):
  • Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire
• Fix all misspellings noted on User:Green Fig/Log and add these misspellings to the misspellings list.
• Re-categorize icon images in Category:Artwork with Category:Icons.
