Magneto is a strong character overall. His bread and butter attacks are Scrap Blades and Master's Hand; the former is good for crowds, and the latter is good for dealing heavy damage to single foes (though it also has a decent area of effect). Repulsion Wave is useful mostly for giving him some breathing room. Rending Force is okay but low damage.
In terms of abilities, the most useful are Concentration (more Focus) and Magnetic Mastery (more damage for all powers). The Force of Will ability grants him a good chance to deflect projectiles and beams (max 35% chance), but when flying he is automatically surrounded by a force field bubble that deflects almost all projectiles and beams. The force field bubble is free; you don't need to spend ability points to get it. That being the case, he should be flying often, as this allows him to take advantage of the projectile immunity.
