Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is a first- and third-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe, developed by Raven Software and published by LucasArts (North America) and Activision (rest of the world) for Windows, and later MacOS, in 2003. Vicarious Visions developed it for Xbox later that same year, while Aspyr Media did so for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2020.

The game and the rest of the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces series was re-released on Steam and Direct2Drive in 2009. It was released on the Mac App Store in 2013 and, after the LucasArts closure later that year, Raven Software developers released its code on Sourceforge under GNU GPLv2 licensing.

Story[edit | edit source]

The single player game takes place two years after Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and a decade after the Battle of Endor in Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. The player is Jaden Korr, a promising student from Coruscant en route to the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4 to help Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, and later the previous series protagonist Kyle Katarn, restore the Jedi to their formal place as peacekeepers of the galaxy against an increasingly desperate Imperial Remnant. There is also a multiplayer mode to compete against other players.

Powered by the same id Tech 3 (Quake III Arena) engine as its predecessor, it contains modifications to the Quake code to include lightsaber combat. In a new feature, the player can select gender and appearance, even constructing a lightsaber by choosing its hilt style and blade color.
