Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is the second installment of the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces series set in the Star Wars universe, developed and published by LucasArts exclusively for Windows in 1997. It was later released via Steam and Direct2Drive in 2009.
The game was originally created as a 2-disk series compatible with Windows 95 and 98. More recently, it has been made available via Steam (beginning in September 2009) or by mounting a torrent file to a virtual CD drive. It is a 3D first-person shooter, although it can be played in third person as well. Like later installments in the series, it is an action/adventure game that features progressive Force power development. Each mission, with the exception of battles with the seven Dark Jedi, contains secret areas that can be found for extra Stars used to increase the rank of Force powers. The game features a variety of resolutions, 3D acceleration, high-quality sounds, a phenomenal musical score, and live-action cinematics.
Story[edit | edit source]
The game takes place after the destruction of the second Death Star in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. As the Rebel Alliance begins the difficult process of building the New Republic, the seven Dark Jedi led by Jerec seek the legendary Valley of the Jedi, a lost battleground of untold power to destroy peace and justice in the galaxy.
The player is Kyle Katarn, the protagonist of the previous game Star Wars: Dark Forces, accompanied as before by his partner Jan Ors aboard their ship, the Moldy Crow. As Kyle mourns his father and seeks his murderer, he retrieves a lightsaber from his father's workshop on Sulon, advancing his Jedi rank and powers as he races the seven Dark Jedi to the Valley, to prevent Jerec claiming its power... or claiming it for himself if he's been seduced to the Dark Side...
