Players have the ability to, for single player and multiplayer missions, select nose art of their choice. Nose art was (and to an extent still is) painted on the side of planes as good luck charms, kill records, or memories of home, among other things. Nose art appears, as its name suggests, on the nose of the plane.
Nose art does not provide any bonuses or handling differences to the plane, and merely serves as eye candy for the player flying the plane. All aircraft will use the same nose art when it is selected; it is impossible to have each aircraft have a different set.
In total there are 16 pieces of nose art available for the US and 15 for the Japanese. The Mustang Unit Pack adds more, listed below.
