The Kingdom of Ivalice, forever guarded by the sun-kissed twin headed lions. A year after the Kingdom's defeat in the 50 Year War, the King has died leaving behind a 2 year old heir to the throne. A regent rules over the Kingdom until the boy becomes of age. At first, the Queen's elder brother, Prince Larg, serves as regent, but parliament, fearing the influence of the Queen, ousts Prince Larg and appoints Prince Goltana, distant cousin to the King, as regent. Prince Goltana and Prince Larg are both highly respected generals who served with distinction during the 50 Year War. Prince Goltana has the support of the Nobles, but the disenfranchised Knights support Prince Larg. The Black Lion symbolizes Prince Goltana and the White Lion symbolizes Prince Larg. This is the beginning of what will later be known as 'The War of the Lions' .
