- Rid the streets of all the hobos, so Ernald can get back into his lab.
- Tell Ernald it's safe to open his lab again.
- Find a 1/64 scale model of the Sinwheel.
- Give the scale model of the Sinwheel to Ernald.
Walkthrough[edit]
Once you've retrieved the Steaming Bolt from the ruins of your home during Case 2: The Game Is Afoot, you'll be able to explore all of Hobo Alley; in the West Chestnut Park panel, you'll find Dr. Ernald P. Whimple, a hobo scientist who's been kicked out of his lab area by the other hobos.
After you've spoken to Ernald, kill all 15 hobos around Hobo Alley. The number in each encounter will vary, and they'll occasionally be accompanied by Fruit Fucker (Mark II). Once they're dead, go back to Ernald and he'll open his lab again and give you an insight into his research and methods. You'll also receive a punch card, some lint and a family ticket to the Pelican Bay boardwalk for your trouble.
As you leave his lab area, you'll spot the Slum Lord racing into the Shithole with a sack of hobos, which means you can now enter and proceed with the next parts of On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness/Case 1: Up, From The Ashes, Case 2: The Game Is Afoot and Case 5: The Meat Of Human Kindness.
Ernald needs a scale model of the Pelican Bay Sinwheel to continue; you can get one from Kurtis Swindell at the entrance to the boardwalk in exchange for three tokens: one red, one blue and one green. You'll have to win at each of the three boardwalk games - Flying Pricks, Balls and Holes and Vandalism - at least once in order to collect the tokens required. Show Kurtis your family ticket to get into the boardwalk to play the games if you've not already opened the gates.
It's advisable to collect at least 5 of each token; the Madame Zodora machine in Case 10: The Mistress Mysterious will need one red, one green and one blue token, and you'll need three of each if you want to buy the speaker cone at the souvenir stand.
When you've got them all, go back to Kurtis and trade him for the Sinwheel model, then bring that to Ernald in Hobo Alley. He'll carry out an urgent experiment with it, then reward you with a jar of Ultra Urine.
