Area 1[edit]

Phelios Stage 4 Area 1.png

Once the enchanted mirror has faded out and Pegasus has started to propel Apollo forward yet again, the three-script Japanese text Antaiosu no karada kara afure dasu yōgan ga, daichi Gaia wo ōu. Nagareru yōgan no nakaniha Dyupon no ko, Himaira ga sunde iru wa. Himaira no fukidasu honō ni kiwotsukete! Ganbatte, Aporō! (アンタイオスの体からあふれだす溶岩が、 大地ガイアを被う. 流れる溶岩の中にはデュポンの子、 ヒマイラが住んでいるわ. ヒマイラの吹き出す炎に気をつけて! がんばって、アポロー!) will appear at the bottom of the screen while four Item Flies come flying down towards him from the top of the screen; once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at them to kill them, they will leave two "S", an "O" and an "H" powerup behind and announce their names in Japanese from the C140. Once you have collected them, twelve groups of three Phoenixes will come flying towards you from the left and right sides of the screen - and once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, you will come to a Himaira who is spitting flames at you from his position on the left side of the screen. Once you have fired enough of the homing shots from your sword at his head to kill him, twelve Red Will-O-The-Wisps will come flying towards you from the left side, right side, and top of the screen; once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them, to kill them, you will come to another Himaira, who is spitting flames at you from his position on the right side of the screen. Once you've fired enough homing shots from your sword at his head (to kill him), thirteen more Red Will-O-The-Wisps will come flying towards you from the left side, right side, and top of the screen. Once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, you will come to a third Himaira who is spitting flames at you from his position on the left side of the screen - and once you have fired enough homing shots from your sword at his head to kill him, five more groups of three Phoenixes will come flying towards you, from the left and right sides of the screen. Once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them you will come to a fourth Himaira who is spitting flames at you from his position on the right side of the screen; once you have fired enough homing shots from your sword at his head to kill him, five more groups of three more Phoenixes will come flying towards you, from the left and right sides of the screen. Once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of these to kill them, you'll come to a fifth Himaira who is spitting flames at you from his position on the left side of the screen - and once you have fired enough homing shots from your sword at his head to kill him, five more groups of three more Phoenixes will come flying towards you from the left and right sides of the screen. Once you fire a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, you will come to a sixth Himaira who is spitting flames at you from his position on that right side of the screen; once you have fired enough homing shots from your sword at his head to kill him, a fourth Item Fly will come flying down towards you on the left side of the screen. Once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at him to kill him he will leave an "L" powerup behind and announce its name in Japanese from the C140 - and once you have collected it, it will either restore one of Apollo's lost life-hearts (if he was unfortunate enough to take a hit during the course of the game) or grant him an additional fifth one (if he was fortunate enough to not yet take a hit during the course of the game). Two groups of eight Dokubachi will then fly down into view from the top of the screen and will circle around above you (the first group in an anticlockwise direction, and the second group in a clockwise direction), then fly directly towards you; once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, two more groups of eight Dokubachi will fly down into view from the top of the screen and circle around above you (the third group in an anticlockwise direction and that fourth group in a clockwise direction), then fly directly towards you. Once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, three more Item Flies will come flying down towards you on the left side of the screen - and once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, they will leave two more "S" and another "O" powerup behind and announce their names in Japanese from the C140. Once you've collected them, you will come to three Sekizo who are spitting fiery boomerangs at you while their heads revolve in a clockwise direction; once you've fired enough homing shots from your sword at each of their heads to kill them, twelve more Red Will-O-The-Wisps will come flying towards you from the left side, right side, and top of the screen. Once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of these to kill them, you will come to four more Sekizo, who are spitting fiery boomerangs at you from their positions on the left and right sides of the screen, while their heads revolve in a clockwise direction - and once you have fired enough homing shots from your sword at each of their heads to kill them, thirteen more Red Will-O-The-Wisps will come flying towards you from the left side, right side and top of the screen. Once you've fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them ten Type B Dokuro-Hei will come running into view on both the left and right sides of the screen and throw their axes up at you; once you have fired a homing shot from your sword at each of them to kill them, the three-script Japanese text Antaiosu no shinden (アンタイオスの神殿) will appear at the bottom of the screen, as Apollo descends down to and enters the temple of Antaeus (which looks like a yellow version of the Graeae's, and forms the basis for the second and final area). The song you were hearing from the Yamaha YM-2151 will also fade out at this point.

Area 2[edit]

Once Apollo has reappeared inside the temple and its theme starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 three more Item Flies will come flying down towards him on that left side of the screen; once you've fired a charged shot from your sword and all three beams adjacent to it at them to kill them, they'll leave two more "S" and a third "O" powerup behind and announce their names in Japanese from the C140. Once you have collected them all, Antaeus will shoot two large fireballs from his arms at you - and once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at both of them to destroy them, you will have to repeat this process four more times until you come up to Antaeus himself. The three-script Japanese text, Antaiosu no karada wo utsu no ha kiken yo! Atama wo neratte! (アンタイオスの身体を撃つのは危険よ! 頭を狙って!) will then appear at the bottom of the screen, as Antaeus grows to thrice his original size, and the "boss" theme starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 yet again. He will then start spitting hundreds of smaller fireballs at you (which cannot be destroyed, and must be avoided); once you have fired out enough charged shots from your sword (and the three beams adjacent to it) at his head to defeat him, he'll explode and the three-script text Aporō ha, Antaiosu wo taoshita. (アポローは、アンタイオスを倒した.) will appear at the bottom of the screen. Apollo will then proceed to the enchanted mirror at the back of Antaeus's temple, as Typhon's theme again starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 - and once it fades in, Artemis will again scream from the C140, and Typhon will then speak the three-script Japanese text of Sā, motto nakiwameke! Aporō wo obikiyosero! (さぁ、もっと泣きわめけ! アポローをおびき寄せろ!) from it off-camera. Once it fades out again, the game will segue into the fifth stage, which is also comprised of two areas; but if the arcade owner had set the "RANK SELECT" setting in the game's options menu to "ON" and you chose to start in "EASY" mode, you will instead get the message that is normally associated with the end of the seventh stage. It is also worth noting that if Apollo flies up into the head of Antaeus during this stage, the impact will kill him instantly - regardless of how many life-hearts he has.

Note: If Apollo is too close to Antaeus's body when it explodes, he will lose a life-heart if he gets caught in the blast; if it was his last one, the blast will kill him, but the game will still proceed to the enchanted mirror at the back of the temple as if he was still alive and resurrect him at the start of the fifth stage (unless the life that he lost was his last one, in which case it shall yet again proceed to the continue screen after the enchanted mirror has faded out). As in Splatterhouse, if you wish to continue playing after losing your last life you shall have to select "YES" within ten seconds of inserting another coin, but if the arcade operator set the "RANK SELECT" setting in the options menu to "ON" and you chose to start in "EASY" mode it will proceed to the ending.
