After exiting the clock shop and into a very different street, Professor Layton and Luke find themselves shut out of the clock shop. Layton decides to explore the nearby area to find out where they are. You will get Mystery 3: London Transformed.
An altered London[edit]
Talk to the man on the street to find out that he has been doing construction work near the clock shop for about a year, even though there was no sign of activity minutes before. Move back on to Midland Road to find that it has drastically changed. Talk to Niklaus, who seems to recognize Layton's hat. Check the blue door and Layton will note that it is unlocked. Talk to Anita, who will mention that the café has always been open even though it's been closed before. Talk to the drunken man Alfie for Puzzle 010. After solving the puzzle, Alfie will give you the 
Picture Book minigame, as well as stickers of a 
plum tree, a 
boot and a 
old man.
Exit the café and move back. Once again, the area has been changed a lot from before. Talk to Hazel, who seems to be intimidated by the professor. You will get Mystery 4: Frightened Bystanders. Enter the building to the left and examine the flower. Granny R., who appeared in both previous games, will walk out from the shadows, saying that she is retiring from keeping missed puzzles.
Exit the shop, then move back. The bus stop Layton and Luke arrived at is dilapidated, along with a significant change in scenery. Check the bus stop to find out that the bus line has been discontinued...five years in the future! Talk to Shipley the mailman for Puzzle 011. After solving the puzzle, Shipley will give you a 
plum sticker as well as an important letter for Layton. The letter is sent by future Luke, who requests that Layton go to Green Hospital. You will get Mystery 5: Future Luke. Talk to Adeline, who will suggest using the underground railway to travel around, and that there's a hotel on Southern Street.
A place to rest[edit]
Move to the right to trigger a short cutscene. After that, talk to Max, who will say that Southern Street is east of where we are. Move right to reach the hotel. Talk to the man on the left to trigger Puzzle 012, which will net you a 
hat sticker. Talk to Becky, who will introduce the hotel. Go inside and Becky will inform us that she has prepared a suite for two. Talk to the clerk at the counter to trigger Puzzle 013. Talk to Becky to trigger Puzzle 014, which will net you a 
girl sticker. Check the bedside table to trigger Puzzle 015.
Try to exit the hotel. Before you do, Margaret the clerk will give Luke the 
Toy Car minigame and the Daily Stroll course. Exit the hotel and move left. Talk to Max to gain access to the arcade. Move forward, then talk to the goon near the restaurant to trigger Puzzle 016. Enter the restaurant and talk to Paillard to trigger Puzzle 017, which will net you a 
banana sticker. Exit the restaurant and move forward. Talk to the man there to get information about a gang called the Family. Layton will check the date on his newspaper, which is dated 10 years in the future! Mystery 3 will be solved. Check the banana peel to trigger Puzzle 018.
A reunion[edit]
Move right into Flatstone Street and talk to Hazel. Move forward and Layton will notice another family goon as well as the entrance to the underground subway. You will get Mystery 6: The Family. Enter the station and check the machine at the middle. Select 
Auckland Lane as your destination, which will cause you to move there. Move right to the area outside the hospital. Check the tree near the entrance repeatedly to trigger a hidden puzzle: Puzzle 146. Talk to Natalie the clerk to trigger Puzzle 020. She will also mention that Room 312 is where Dr. Andrew Schrader, Layton's former teacher, stays. You will get the 
dead tree sticker.
Move left to meet Schrader, who's staying at the hospital. Talk to him to trigger Puzzle 021, then check the documents at the foot of his table to trigger Puzzle 022. Talk to him again after solving Puzzle 021 to receive Keys for something. Move downstairs and forward to the back of the hospital. It's Professor Layton's Laytonmobile, and 10 years without maintenance has caused it to break down. Check the car for Puzzle 023. Inside is another letter from future Luke, who wants to meet Layton at the Gilded 7 Casino on Flatstone Street. And that ends Chapter 1!
