Welcome to StrategyWiki![edit]

Hello Pso! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide. If you have a question about the content on this wiki, you can check out our staff lounge page. If you want to ask questions or hang out in IRC, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. Please remember to sign your name on, and only on, talk pages by clicking Wikisigbutton.png or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Finally, please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field as this helps to document all of your hard work. Feel free to delete this message from your talk page if you like, or keep it for reference. Happy editing! -- najzere 17:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Najzere, and for the cleanups too ;D I'm a big fan of convention but I'm new to Wiki editing so you'll have to excuse my mistakes or workarounds while I learn the ropes! I've already taken note of the conventions in the civs/units pages you cleaned up so hopefully you won't have to clean up after me any more ;D I'll also leaving your message here because it has some useful links haha. Thanks again Najzere, I might be bugging you/admins with questions later on ;D

Hi Pso. I'm guessing you like conversation! For someone new to wikis, you sure are learning fast! And there's no need to worry about mistakes. That's what naj and all the admins are for, cleaning them up. Luckily for me, I'm not an admin, so it's not my duty! And if there's a game you are good at or something, feel free to help with the walkthrough and stuff like that! I'll probably be seeing you soon (just a figure of speech)! --Melon247 14:38, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Haha yep I don't mind a bit of conversation, and StrategyWiki is looking like a friendly place to settle down ;D Thanks for the kudos, I'll try to keep the learning up ;) and it looks like you've made quite a mark on the Dog's Life guide (amongst others)! Long way for me to go yet ;D I'll be sure to join in with other games and walkthroughs whenever I can; I'm not opposed to a bit of gaming and a bit of sharing ;) I'll probably focus on Civilization Revolution for now just to get some experience under my belt first. Have fun gaming and not having to be an admin! hehe sorry Naj ;) -- Pso 15:51, 6 January 2009 (UTC) (I'll be away until 13th jan so there'll be zero activity from me for the next week >_<)
You should consider dropping in on IRC sometime. You can always navigate using your own IRC client, like XChat, Chatzilla, or mIRC, or you can just use the "Chat" function in the side bar. --Arrow Windwhistler (talk) 16:04, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Haven't used IRC for like a decade haha, but I might jump in when I get back on the 13th ;) Thanks for the heads up Arrow ;D -- Pso 03:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Civ technologies[edit]

Hey, wanted to bring {{alphabetTOC}} to your attention in regards to the technology page, as its table of contents is long and creates much whitespace. I don't know if there are enough technologies for this to be worthwhile, but you might like it. Here's a couple examples: Zelda and Super Mario RPG. You can get those ugly headers out of the tech boxes by wrapping the names in <span name="technology name"></span> tags, although this won't build a TOC so you'd have to make one manually (or use the {{alphabetTOC}}). Another option might be creating ==Level 2== headings with the types of technologies to split the page up. I don't play the game, so I don't know if you can group certain technologies together or not. Just some thoughts on making the page more usable. If all else fails, you could use __NOTOC__ and make your own, like this. - najzere 18:30, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Ah nice ;D I was looking for a way to reduce that large and unwieldy list, too much scrolling just to reach the first tech heh. I was going to split the techs up into the "Tiers", but that's not an official definition, just something to help explain where all the techs lie. My friend also suggested that keeping them in alphabetical order is good since people would use the page like an appendix/lookup anyway, so alpha would make it easier for them. Thanks for the examples; Templates! If only I knew how to make/use them before I did the tech page haha. When I come back I'll take a deeper look and fix up the toc/templates of the tech page ;D Cheers Naj -- Pso 03:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Great job on the tech page, those templates and the toc look real nice! - najzere 18:58, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank Naj ;D still learning as I go -- Pso? 01:39, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Sandboxing templates[edit]

Saw your edit summary when you moved the sandbox page to the Template space. You can use transclusion (i.e. {{:page name}}) like a template and the variables and everything should still work. You might as well just use the Template:template name page though, since you're going to have to create it anyway. =P - najzere 19:18, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Haha I left a bit of a trail of destruction didn't I =D but thanks for that, I'll probably just keep to the Template:X now anyway since it's easier and seems to be convention :D -- Pso? 01:39, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Capital Headings[edit]

If you see the Dog's Life guide, the headings are un-capitalized apart from the first letter. But if you are talking about a certain object (see here), then the name of the object should be capitalised as well. Also something I'd like to find out is when you loom at your user talk page, do the links (as in 'user page' and 'edit') look a different font than usual? There might be something on this page confusing them or it might just be my computer. --Melon247 14:01, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Never mind, I think I found the problem. It was this 'code' thing the Najzere put in the heading further up and it seemed to chage most of the writing to code style. --Melon247 14:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Three talk page edits in under a minute :O this must be what it feels like to be an admin haha. But yep thanks for the confirmation about capitalised headings, and fixing up my talk page, don't think I would've found that nearly as quick as you heh. Cheers! -- Pso 14:11, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm sort of in training to be an admin. Some of the guys (and girls) who are already thing that if it's my goal then if I stick at it I might just reach it. That's why I got a new hobby, of doing copy editing. But at the moment there's nothing for me to do in there because the category for pages needing copy edit is empty! I don't suppose you want anything looking through? --Melon247 14:21, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey that's cool, more admins! Probably be needing more with all this talk about a second wiki heh. I'm just hoping I'll have enough free time to be a consistent contributor =O If the copy-edit category is empty maybe that means you're doing your job well ;D haha. As for looking-through, I haven't done too much just yet, just whacking in some info and lists in the CivRev wiki, and Naj has been looking on to make sure I don't muck things up too much =) If I ever churn out a horribly formatted page though I'll let you know ;D

Linked pages missing from the Civilization Revolution ToC[edit]

I just took a good look at the rest of the guide and fixed anything that looked off. I was wondering if you could help with this (specifically since you seem pretty familiar with the game). There are some red links that lead to pages that aren't in the ToC yet. Which sections would they go in?

Linked to pages missing from the ToC
  • Culture
  • Culture Flipping (would be a part of the Culture page or on its own?)
  • Mysterious Artifacts
  • Trade
  • Gold

I'm familiar with a lot of the previous games but have not played this specific version yet. If I add these to the ToC there is a decent chance of them being placed under the wrong heading. --Zaiqukaj 10:49, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Heya Zaiqukaj, yeah the CivRev guide isn't too consistent from page to page, and there doesn't seem to be too much editing activity! I may have left a few stray / inconsistent / broken links around with the intention that they need something written about them, but they may not necessarily deserve their own article. I'm newish to this so not sure on sorting convention, but culture (+culture flipping), gold, trade and science could probably go in a combined Resources article. Mysterious Artifacts would take no more than a few lines, but would not be very appropriate in any of the existing articles. Another combined article discussing Barbarians and Friendly Villages would probably be most suited to including the mysterious artifacts. I've been meaning to get around to it, but there's plenty to fix up around here and it's on my todo list (well, kinda, I should make a proper todo list; making a proper todo list is on my todo list mmmm). Any monkeying / tinkering or advice would be more than welcome ;) Cheers! -- Pso 11:21, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Are the artifacts gained/activated like the barbarians are? In the version I'm familiar with they came from an icon that looked like a hut. I normally like throwing all the basic info that needs to be known but is not big enough for its own thing in Getting Started (Seriously, this section is simply vague or introductory instructions on how to play). This advice is pleasing, I have a vague plan of action now. --Zaiqukaj 11:37, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Haha no worries. Barbarians are hostile cities with armies that sometimes roam around. Friendly Villages are kinda like pickups, that give you a little bonus if you move a unit onto them (and are 'used up' / disappear in the process). Mysterious Artifacts are like extra powerful Friendly Villages, but there are only two or three (I think, in the DS version anyway) in any one game. I know of three Mysterious Artifacts, which I have obtained multiple times, but am not sure if there are any more than I just haven't received (haven't been able to play too much of it recently). -- Pso 11:41, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
