Knights of Legend
Knights of Legend (KL) is a 1989 Strategy and Role-Playing video game by Origin Systems. It was released one year after Ultima V, and many aspects of this game are similar. Still, the combat system is what really puts Knights of Legend apart from the Ultima games.
Story
(From in-game text of Ultima VI: The False Prophet)
Once, in the kingdom of Ashtalarea, there was a great war. For a time it seemed the forces of evil would triumph, but through the valiant efforts of Seggallion, the greatest knight in the land, the forces of the dark lord Pildar were finally driven back and defeated.
All was well for a time, but years later Pildar had grown powerful again. From his dark tower he wove his evil schemes, and managed to capture the Duke, and the great knight Seggallion as well. With his greatest foe out of the way, he was prepared once more to set out on a campaign of conquest. In those troubled times, a party of great heroes arose...
Critical reception
Knights of Legend was not a commercial success, and the planned expansion packs were never released.
Still, most reviews of this game are extremely positive. The most praised aspects of the game is the extremely high amount of options and details in battle.
The game author described it as "a game that combined the quick play of a computer with the detailed combat and worlds of paper". Ironically, the very few negative reviews say that the amount of details makes the game extremely slow.
