Chase H.Q./Stage 5

CHQ Stage 5 Course Map.png

As mentioned on the two previous pages, the (initially-unknown) target car of this stage has a slight speed advantage over Gibson and Broady's Porsche once they catch up with it, so it's once again advisable to only expend a use of the Turbo Activator if it is absolutely necessary before they have done so; the amount of points you receive for each time you manage to ram into the back of this once-again-slightly-faster one has also been increased to 50000.

Once Gibson and Broady's Porsche has reappeared on the screen (with a yet-again-replenished amount of Turbo Activator uses), you shall have to step on the gas pedal to accelerate it, then shift into high gear once it reaches 200 km/h; you shall then have to turn to the left, turn to the right twice, and turn to the left as the Special Investigation Department helicopter flies into view from the screen's right side (and gives an indistinct radio announcement from the Yamaha YM-2610). A right-pointing arrow will now appear on the screen as you come to a forked junction - and if you choose to turn to the right, you shall have to turn to the right again, as you drive into a tunnel and the Special Investigation Department helicopter flies away up off the top of the screen. Once you have come out of this tunnel, you will have to turn to the left, then turn to the right as you drive into another tunnel; once you have come out of this second tunnel, you will come to the point where both paths meet. However, if you chose to turn to the left at that forked junction, you will drive under seventy-six red bridges as the Special Investigation Department helicopter flies away up off the top of the screen - and you shall then have to turn to the right as you drive into a different first tunnel. Once you have come out of this tunnel, you will have to turn to the left as you come to the point where both paths meet; regardless of which path you chose, you shall now have to turn to the right, turn to the left as the sky darkens, turn to the right again, turn to the left again, and turn to the right once again, as the text "SIGHTING OF TARGET VEHICLE" appears on the screen (the "target vehicle" in question is a red sports car, and your time will also be extended to 55, 60, 65 or 70 more extra seconds as the red police light reappears on top of the Porsche and its siren starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2610 for a fifth and final time). You will then have to catch up with the target car and ram it until it is too damaged to keep going - however, as mentioned on the two previous pages, if you have expended all your Turbo Activator uses by this point, the timer will almost certainly run out before you can disable it. But if you manage to completely fill the target car's damage meter on the screen's left side before that happens, it shall stop (the Porsche shall also, for a final time, stop with it); the text of "STAGE 5 COMPLETE!" shall now appear on the screen with the text of "OK! You're under arrest on suspicion of espionage and first degree murder." and a picture of Gibson and Broady arresting that Eastern bloc spy from Washington below it. You shall then receive a "Clear Bonus" (this time of 500000 points) and a "Time Bonus" of 5000 points for every second you have remaining - and the screen will then fade to Gibson and Broady being congratulated by their chief, Case Special Investigation Chief Aves, as the text "CONGRATULATIONS! ALL CLEAR 5000000 PTS" appears on it. The game's staff credits will now roll as its ending theme starts to be heard:

However, in the US version (which shows the Porsche's speed in miles, as opposed to kilometres), the copyright notice says "© 1988 TAITO AMERICA CORPORATION", and in the World version, it says "© 1988 TAITO CORPORATION JAPAN"; after the credits have finished, the game will go into high-score mode as its high-score theme starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2610. Your score will most likely be the highest one on the cabinet to date, so you should enter your initials at the top of the table with pride by turning the steering wheel left and right to select the letters, then pressing the Turbo Activator switch to confirm them - and once you do so, the game shall go back into attract mode. Gibson and Broady shall return for Crime City in 1989.
