==Entering the Guardhouse==
You're now in the Mansion's Guardhouse, where several mysteries lie: from gigantic sharks to mutated plants, this Guardhouse has everything you could imagine. All major items will be detailed in this section, including the final key we need to unlock the rest of the doors in the Mansion.

Run forward and you'll be able to pick up two '''Blue Herbs''' and a single '''Green Herb''' in the corner, although it is not advised that you pick up the Blue ones. Walk behind the statue and push it down the hallway until you reach the middle of intersection. Proceed to walk to the left of the statue and push it over the small hole in the floor. This prevents the Plant 42's (you'll find out what this thing is soon) vines from attacking you when you walk through this area. Go back to the first corridor and go through the first single door on the right. (Director's Cut players can't do anything about the hole in front of the red doors, but we're only going there once, so it's not a major concern.)

Go to the other side of this room and take the '''Explosive Rounds''' (Beretta '''Clip''' for Chris players) and '''First Aid Spray''' from the bookshelf. Walk up to the item box and drop off the Square Crank, Explosive Rounds (for Jill), First Aid Spray, and any other herbs you may have. Save the game if you'd like by using the typewriter in the corner, and then exit the room (make sure you only take one weapon with some ammo with you, preferably the Beretta). Rebirth players will find a blue item box puzzle; to solve it: 

==== Chris ====
*Replace pink circle and red ring with green circle and pink ring.
*Replace yellow circle and green ring with red circle and blue ring.
*Replace green circle and red ring with red circle and green ring.
*Replace blue circle and yellow ring with yellow circle and blue ring.

==== Jill ====
*Replace pink circle and red ring with red circle and yellow ring.
*Replace pink circle and yellow ring with yellow circle and pink ring.
*Replace blue circle and gray ring with green circle and blue ring.
*Replace green circle and gray ring with gray circle and green ring.

Your reward will be a box of '''Shotgun Shells'''. Head through the single door that's across from the one you just came from. Run forward and past the camera to see two zombies just around the corner. Wait for them to come toward you and then finish them off. When both of them are dead, unlock the small desk drawer to find a box of '''Shotgun Shells''' (Chris players will have to use a Small Key). Take the '''Red Book''' that's on the bed and then go through the single door that's next to the entranceway door. Chris players can also find a '''Small Key''' inside the cup that's on the nightstand in the corner. Director's Cut players will not find the Red Book, so instead of going into the bathroom, return back to the hallway.

Now for all versions except the Director's Cut players: walk up to the bathtub and unplug it to drain all of the water. Once all the water is gone, search the bathtub again to find the '''Control Room Key''' and then leave the room (a zombie will come out of the bathtub for Rebirth players). Go back into the nearby hallway afterwards. All versions are now together again, but will part ways soon.

Every version except Director's Cut: turn left, take a right at the intersection, and go through the single door at the end of the corridor (Rebirth players will trigger a knife fight from before). If you'd like, you can go through the set of double red doors to find some extra goodies. As soon as you enter the room, run to the right and take the '''Ink Ribbons''' on the table. Immediately check the stack of barrels in the corner to find a Beretta '''Clip''' and then leave the room. Avoid the Spiders as best you can, and if you get poisoned, you can always use one of the Blue Herbs out in the Main Hallway.

Director's Cut players must instead open the double red doors at the end of the hallway. Immediately run to the right and take the '''Red Book''' that's on top of the table. Before leaving, you can take a Beretta '''Clip''' from the stack of barrels next to the table, but other than that, just leave the room. If you were poisoned, you can use one of the Blue Herbs located in the corner of the Main Hallway. Now run forward, take a left at the intersection, and go through the single door at the end of the corridor.

==Getting to the Basement==
All versions are now together again: turn the corner just up ahead and go through the first single door on the right. Run forward, turn left, and run down the single corridor. At the end of this corridor is the '''002 Key'''; grab it and then leave the room the same way you came in (don't waste any ammo on the Bees as they're harmless and pose almost no threat). Take a right, turn the corner, and go through the door labeled '002'. Before entering, you can push the gargoyle statue forward to reveal three '''Green Herbs'''.

We're getting to another point where the versions will separate again. Director's Cut players can follow the next walkthrough but before going down the ladder, they'll have to open the door next to the entryway. 

===Jill and Chris (Original and Rebirth)===
Run forward and unlock the desk drawer for a box of '''Shotgun Shells''' (Chris players will need a Small Key). There's also a '''Guardhouse Map''' on the nearby wall and the '''''Plant 42 Report''''' on top of the bed. Go to the area behind the bed and push the bureau on the left forward and the bureau on the right a little to the right to reveal a ladder (Rebirth players will have to deal with a lone zombie and spider). You can also go through the single door next to the entranceway door. Inside is a lone zombie and a Beretta '''Clip''' in the sink.

===Jill and Chris (Director's Cut)===
Quickly kill the two zombies inside, grab the '''003 Key''' from the sink, and then leave the room. Now open the door next to you, take a left and run down the hallway until you approach a single door: go through it. Run across the room and go through the door labeled '003'; proceed forward and kill the zombie hovering around the desk. Once he's dead, walk up to the bookshelf, take the gray-colored book and then place the Red Book inside. This will cause the nearby shelf to move to the right, revealing a hidden door you must now go through.

If you'd like to you can open the single door next to the entranceway; this leads to the 003 Dormitory Bathroom, where a lone zombie and some '''Flame Rounds''' preside (a Beretta '''Clip''' will be there for Chris players). As soon as you enter start shooting Plant 42 with whatever ammo you have (Flame Rounds are recommended). It will take over twenty Beretta rounds, six to ten Shotgun Shells, or three to eight various types of grenades to weaken Plant 42; after it does, Barry will come in with a flamethrower and finish it off, saving Jill from a gruesome fate. After the cutscene, walk up to the fireplace and take the '''Control Room Key'''; retrace your steps back to the 002 Dormitory and push the two shelves aside to find a hidden ladder, which you must go down.

After Chris looks at the huge mutated plant, he will be grabbed by it as Rebecca enters the room. Chris tells Rebecca to create the potion to destroy the Plant's roots, so you must now control Rebecca; after the cutscene, she exits the room. (Skip to the next heading labeled "Making V-Jolt".)

If you've been following the bad ending, Chris will instead have to fight the Plant 42 by hand, so unload all of the ammo you have until you finally kill it (you may have to go back to the safe room to gather more powerful weapons and ammo). Once you do, collect the '''Control Room Key''' from the fireplace.

==Making V-Jolt (Chris and Jill)==
Run across the room and walk up to the door with the keypad next to it: enter either 3-4-5 or 2-1-5 in order to gain access to the room. Once inside, take all four '''Empty Bottles''' lying around the room and follow this process in order to make the vital V-Jolt:
*First fill one bottle with water by using the sink and then combining that bottle with UMB No. 2 that's on the shelf next to the door.
*Fill another empty bottle with UMB No. 4 and combine it with the bottle from before.
*Take another bottle and fill it with UMB No. 2 and another empty bottle with UMB No. 4; combine these bottles and then combine it with the previous mixture.
*Fill an empty bottle with water and mix it with a bottle of UMB No. 2: combine this mixture with the previous mixture, which will finally create V-Jolt.

Once you have the V-Jolt, head back to the 002 Dormitory and push the two shelves aside to find a hidden ladder, which you must go down.

==In the Basement==
Turn the corner and stand behind the wooden crate: push it forward until it is in the middle of the intersection. Proceed to go to the right side of it and push it up against the left-hand wall; now stand behind it and push it all the way down the hallway until you reach the intersection. There are two other wooden crates here, so just simply push them forward until they fall into the nearby water pool. Now push the wooden crate from before into the water pool in order to make a bridge to the next area. Turn the next corner and open the set of double doors in the water (there are also two '''Green Herbs''' opposite the doors).

All versions except Director's Cut (Chris) must now run to the right and not stop until they reach two doors next to each other: open the left one by using the Control Room Key. Once inside, go up to the control panel on the wall and lower the switch in order to drain the water (Rebirth players will have to deal with a puzzle in which they must turn the valve handle to the right until the water drains). Once the water level is down, press the small flashing button next to the door in order to unlock another door (Rebirth players will have to solve a math puzzle here: ); exit this room and open the door on the right.

Director's Cut (Chris) players must branch off and open the single door that's in the adjacent corner (if you've been following the bad ending, skip to the next paragraph); once inside, use the V-Jolt on the plant root and then leave the room, which causes the control to go back to Chris. (Skip to the next heading.)

This room is primarily a weapon storage, where you'll find two Beretta '''Clips''', two boxes of '''Shotgun Shells''', and an '''003 Key''' on the right-hand shelf, while Director's Cut players will find the '''Helmet Key''' instead of the 003 Key. When you've collected all of these items, exit the room and head back to the 002 Dormitory.

==A Mutated Plant==
Director's Cut (Chris) players who have been following the good ending must now take on Plant 42. It's already in a weakened state, so you don't need to use as much ammo. If you're low on ammo or one powerful weapon such as the Shotgun, head back to the safe room and pick one up, as you can always come back to Plant 42. There's not really that much strategy involved for fighting Plant 42, as you just have to keep shooting and running to a different position (but don't get too close or he'll either grab or whip you). When the mutation is destroyed, run up to the fireplace, take the '''Control Room Key''', and exit the room. A cutscene then plays (a cheesy one at that), and after it does, go back to the 002 Dormitory and down the hidden ladder. Run all the way down this hallway until you make it to a set of double doors: go through them and keep running to the right until you reach two doors next to each other. 

Open the left one with your new key and pull the lever on the control panel down to drain the water. Once you do, press the flashing button, which opens the other door on the right. Leave the room and open this door, where you'll find two Beretta '''Clips''', two boxes of '''Shotgun Shells''', and the '''Helmet Key''' on the right-hand shelf. Once you have the Helmet Key, you can now leave the Guardhouse, so exit the 002 Dormitory to trigger a cutscene and then head back to the Courtyard via the Guardhouse entrance. Once you're in the Courtyard, go all the way back to the Mansion's Shed. (Skip to next page.)

Director's Cut (Jill) players can simply leave the Guardhouse, so exit the 002 Dormitory to trigger a cutscene and then head back to the Courtyard via the Guardhouse entrance. Once you're in the Courtyard, go all the way back to the Mansion's Shed. (Skip to the next page.)

All versions except Director's Cut: exit the 002 Dormitory and open the closest door in the hallway, taking you back to the room with the bees. Unlock the door labeled '003' with your new key and go on through. Run forward a little bit, kill the zombie lurking around the desk, and take the blank white book from the bookshelf. Replace it with the Red Book in order to reveal a hidden door. Before stepping through it, you can take a pair of '''Ink Ribbons''' from the desk, which Chris players need a Small Key for, and '''Flame Rounds''' for Jill or a Beretta '''Clip''' for Chris in the adjacent bathroom (be careful of the zombie inside). 

Now head through the door to meet Plant 42: Chris players who have been following the good ending will be grabbed by the plant, and in this case, must skip to the above heading labeled "Making V-Jolt" and then use it on the plant's roots in the basement. Other than that, all versions can keep firing at Plant 42 until it is finally dead (if you need more powerful weapons or ammo, head back to the safe room and then come back here). When it's finally dead, go up to the fireplace and take the '''Helmet Key'''. You can now leave the Guardhouse, so head back to the Courtyard via the Guardhouse entrance. Once you're in the Courtyard, go all the way back to the Mansion's Shed.

For all versions: it is recommended you take the Shotgun before leaving the Guardhouse in order to deal with a new enemy.
