Valkyrie Profile/Characters

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

Template:AfDM Template:Articleissues Template:Gameguide The Valkyrie Profile series contains a plot line that is highly dependent on its characters. The cast is large, diverse and colorful, sharing histories in a war-torn, tragic landscape. This article focuses on describing the main playable characters, as well as some of the minor enemies and allies that are encountered throughout both Valkyrie Profile and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. It should be noted that the appearances of mythological figures such as the Norse gods are highly stylized and re-imagined, and thus this article should not be used as a proper mythological source.

The Valkyries

The Valkyries, the three goddesses of fate, share the same body, though only one is awake at any given time and can be distinguished by hair color and armor. Lenneth has silver hair/blue armor, Hrist has black hair/dark violet armor, and Silmeria has blond hair/light purple armor.

Hrist Valkyrie

Chooser of the Slain Sword (VP), Lance/Sword (VP2) Aesir 25 (Midgard Reckoning) Valhalla Nibelung Valesti Kikuko Inoue (VP), Atsuko Tanaka (VP2) Megan Hollingshead (VP), Tara Platt (VP2)

Elder sister of Lenneth and Silmeria, Hrist serves Odin with great zeal, making her ruthless and even somewhat evil in this regard. A frighteningly terrifying figure, she was brought out of slumber in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth to replace Lenneth after her sister regained her memories as a human. Claiming the Valkyrie body, she was defeated by Arngrim, Mystina, Lezard Valeth, and Brahms as she tried to confront the Lord of the Undead and recover her sister Silmeria.

In Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria that she was dispatched to bring the errant Silmeria back to Valhalla. Initially foiled in this endeavor, Hrist posed as a human warrior named Leone and joined Alicia's quest to aid Dipan in fighting the Aesir, not revealing her true identity until they reached the Palace of the Venerated Dragon. She fled with the Dragon Orb, eventually destroying Dipan and executing King Barbarossa at Odin's behest. However, she would eventually side with Alicia, opposing Freya herself, stating she would not allow the gods to harm her einherjar. Later, after Lezard casts the Sovereign's Rite on her, Hrist's soul combines with those of Alicia, Lenneth, and Silmeria to become one Valkyrie in order to defeat Lezard. It is shown that afterwards their four souls separated again. Though their fates are unknown.

In Japanese, Hrist's name is アーリィ ("Aarii"). It has been romanized as "Ahly" in the Japanese version of Silmeria and "Early" in the Valkyrie Profile artbook. In Norse mythology, there is a Valkyrie named Hrist.

Lenneth Valkyrie

The primary protagonist of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Lenneth was awakened by Odin and tasked with recruiting the souls of deceased warriors (einherjar) from Midgard to assist in the war against the Vanir and prevent the destruction of Asgard in Ragnarok. She does as she is asked until she discovers that, while she had been "sleeping", her soul had been reborn in Midgard as a girl named Platina who had been in love with a human named Lucian. Odin replaces her with Hrist after she regains her memories, but through the efforts of Arngrim, Mystina and Lezard, Lenneth is returned to the Valkyrie body. During her battle with Loki, Lenneth discovered that her rebirth, using a half-elven/half-human homunculus, granted her powers surpassing those of Odin and gave her the power of creation. After killing Loki, Lenneth restored Lucian to life, and the two were able live together in peace with Lenneth as the Lord of Creation.

Lenneth returns in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria as her future self, thanks to a time machine built in Dipan. To stop the deterioration of her world caused by Lezard Valeth, who used the time machine to alter the past, she joins Alicia, Hrist, Rufus, and Brahms to stop the madman. Later, Lezard cast the Sovereign's Rite on the Valkyries and imprisoned Lenneth in a crystal prison, intending to combine his and her souls but was stopped by Alicia, Brahms, Rufus, and Arngrim. With the help of Brahms, Alicia and the three Valkyries merged into one soul and defeated Lezard. The four souls separated afterwards but that became of the three Valkyries is unknown; a message simply states that a new future awaits Lenneth.

Lenneth makes a cameo as a bonus boss in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and as a recruitable character in Radiata Stories. She will also be appearing in Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One, though it is unknown what her role will be.

Silmeria Valkyrie

Class Weapon Race Age Birthplace Soul Crush Japanese Cast English Cast
Chooser of the Slain Bow/Sword Aesir 21 (Midgard Reckoning) Valhalla Nibelung Valesti Ayako Kawasumi Jennifer Sekiguchi

Youngest of the three Valkyries, she is trapped in a crystal in Brahms' throne room in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth and Lenneth and Hrist both make separate attempts to rescue her. Brahms persuades Lenneth not to fight, boasting that she could not possibly win, whereas Arngrim, Lezard, and Mystina assist him in defeating Hrist. At the end of the game, she remains in Brahms's castle. The reason for her current state is due to her past alliance with Brahms. Odin and Freya however attempted to capture Brahms, but Silmeria intervened and was frozen in crystal instead. Brahms fled with her, thus explaining her state during the first game.

Silmeria is one of the co-protagonists of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria along with Princess Alicia of Dipan. Once a loyal servant of Odin, an incidence with Brahms caused Silmeria to rebel against Odin. Recognizing the danger she posed, Odin invoked the Sovereign's Rite, placing Silmeria's soul within Alicia's body to live out a mortal life. However, something went amiss and Silmeria awoke within Alicia, the two of them being able to communicate with each other and control Alicia's body. They were eventually separated by the Three Mages of Dipan, though Lezard Valeth disappeared with Silmeria's soul, using it as a power source. Alicia eventually recovered and rematerialized her, though Silmeria would again be separated from her body when Lezard cast the Sovereign's Rite upon the three Valkyries. With the help of Brahms, Alicia and the three Valkyries merged into one soul and defeated Lezard. The four souls separated afterwards but the fate of three Valkyries is unknown.

Valkyrie

Chooser of the Slain Sword Aesir/Human Unknown N/A Nibelung Valesti Akiko Yajima Michelle Ruff

"The one true Valkyrie, created by combining Hrist, Lenneth, and Silmeria, the three goddesses of fate. Holds more power than multiple gods, and literally has the power to control even fate."

After Lezard Valeth casts the Sovereign's Rite on the three Valkyries, their disembodied souls are doomed to eventually fade away. Alicia, who has the soul crystals of Hrist and Silmeria, frees Lenneth from Lezard's grasp. With Brahms' help, she merges her soul with the three Valkyries to form one ultimate Valkyrie, though Alicia's soul and body are lost in the process. After defeating Lezard, the Valkyrie's four component souls (Alicia, Hrist, Lenneth, and Silmeria) once again separate, though their fates are unknown.

Valkyrie's power rivals that of the gods (as Lenneth was the Lord of Creation prior to the merging), thus her version of Nibelung Valesti is more grand and powerful than any of the three Valkyries.

The Aesir and Vanir

Frei

Japanese Cast English Cast
Kae Araki Kayzie Rogers

Freya's sister, she appears briefly at the beginning of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth to welcome Lenneth to Valhalla and reappears at key points throughout the rest of the game. Unlike Odin and Freya, Frei sees Lenneth as a friend rather than a tool, but due to her naive nature, she angers Lenneth after the Valkyrie regains her memories by mentioning how Loki had stolen the Dragon Orb and ruined Odin's plans to subjugate Midgard. She is also the one that explains the connection between Platina and Lenneth to Lucian.

Frei's Japanese name is フレイヤ ("Fureiya") and is romanized "Freya." Why her name was switched with Freya's in the English translation is unknown, but it may be due to the fact that Frei's innocent and childlike presence does not suit the Western image of a goddess of love and sexuality.

Freya

Class Weapon Race Age Birthplace Purify Weird Soul/Soul Crush Japanese Cast English Cast
Giver of Life Ether Laser Aesir 26 (Midgard Reckoning) Valhalla Ether Strike Maria Kawamura Veronica Taylor (VP), Kirsten Potter (VP2)

A powerful goddess, Freya serves as the go-between for Lenneth and Odin for most of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Freya is stated to have power to bring life and destroy it. However, she is disdainful of most humans and finds them to be beneath the gods. After Lenneth regains her memories as Platina, Freya informs Odin and the two of them plot to do away with the Valkyrie and replace her with Hrist. After Loki kills Odin, Freya is left in despair, as her betrayal of Lenneth's trust has destroyed any sympathy that the Valkyrie may have had for her.

In Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, she again appears as Odin's assistant. It is shown that she was responsible for trying to capture Brahms, which resulted in Silmeria being imprisoned in a crystal in the the first game. However, due to Lezard interference in the past, the original turn of events does not occur and Brahms is indeed captured by Odin and Freya.

Freya makes a cameo appearance in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time as the final bonus boss who is bent on destroying the planet called Elicoor II, and rebuilding it into Valhalla.

Freya's Japanese name is written フレイ ("Furei") and is romanized as "Frey" on the official website and "Fray" in the Japanese version of Valkyrie Profile 2. "Frei" is also often used because of the name given to her younger sister in the English version. Frei is the name of Freya's brother in true Norse mythology and was a far more powerful god than his sister.

Loki

Japanese Cast English Cast
Mitsuaki Madono Ed Paul

The god of mischief and final antagonist of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Loki secretly works to usurp power from Odin by stealing the Dragon Orb. He then murders Lucian, using him as a scapegoat for the orb's theft. After killing Odin's enemy, Surt, he goes on the offensive, killing Odin, and taking control of Asgard. A nihilist, his only wish is for the destruction of all life, and in the the final battle, uses his power to destroy Asgard and Midgard. However, Lenneth undoes his destruction, revealing her power of creation, and subsequently kills Loki.

Odin

Japanese Cast English Cast (VP) English Cast (VP2)
Shuichi Ikeda Ken Gates Arthur Russell

The lord of the gods, Odin is a rarity among the gods, being half-elven, which grants Odin's powers the capability to grow in strength. He is arrogant and, like most of the gods, does whatever is possible to exert authority over Midgard, a fact that has earned them the ire of humanity. He is responsible for the original theft of the Dragon Orb, taking it from the Palace of the Venerated Dragon, which would cause chaos on Midgard and facilitate the recruitment of einherjar, a fact that he and Freya kept hidden from Lenneth. He is ultimately betrayed by Loki and murdered at Ragnarok, unable to withstand the power Loki could wield with the Dragon Orb.

In Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, Odin's role is immediately antagonistic. He wishes to destroy Dipan for attempting to gain independence from the gods, but cannot do so until he acquires the Dragon Orb. After Hrist obtains the orb and executes King Barbarossa, Odin personally attempts to deal with Rufus and Alicia, though Lezard shows himself and takes both Odin's soul and his spear, Gungnir. Lezard then fuses with Odin's soul, gaining the god's powers.

Surt

Japanese Cast English Cast
Mitsuaki Hoshino Scottie Ray

Ruler of the Vanir, the giants who oppose to Odin and the Aesir in Asgard, Surt waged war upon the Aesir after Odin stole the Dragon Orb, setting the events in motion that lead to Ragnarok. Loki offered his services to Surt, along with Bloodbane and Fenrir, but was turned down by the Vanir leader. Loki then killed Surt and attacked Valhalla alone.

Humans

Alicia

Class Weapon Race Age Soul Crush Japanese Cast English Cast
Light Warrior Sword Human 18 Nibelung Valesti Akiko Yajima Michelle Ruff

Princess of Dipan and co-protagonist of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, Alicia shares the same body with the Valkyrie Silmeria. Able to hear the Valkyrie's voice all her life, she was exiled at a young age because she was thought mad. It was later revealed King Barbabossa and Dallas, one of the Three Mages of Dipan, wanted to protect her from their shameful experiments into time travel, soul transmigration, and creation of undead ghouls. Alicia is very timid and unsure of herself at first but becomes more confident and strong-willed as the game progresses, eventually sacrificing her soul and body in order to combine with the Hrist, Lenneth, and Silmeria into one Valkyrie and defeat Lezard. Afterwards, the four souls separate again, and it is suggested that Alicia's soul has been reincarnated when Rufus sees a young girl in Coriander resembling her.

Arngrim

Class Weapon Race Age Birthplace Purify Weird Soul/Soul Crush Japanese Cast English Cast
Heavy Knight/Mercenary Heavy Sword Human 26 Artolia Final Blast Hiroki Touchi Maddie Blaustein (VP), Dameon Clarke (VP2)

"A mercenary from the Artolia region, blessed with a true warrior's prowess and a good measure of luck. Arngrim's sword-fighting technique is unmatched. In battle, he fights as if he were a demon possessed, slicing through foes like a scythe through ripe wheat."

One of the first souls that Lenneth recruits in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. After Princess Jelanda's death, he kills the man responsible for her death but elects to commit suicide rather than fight Lawfer's father, the captain of the guard. Lenneth then recruits Arngrim at Jelanda's request, telling him to consider it a gift. Due to his arrogance, Odin and Freya refuse to accept him into Valhalla and he spends the rest of the journey at Lenneth's side, becoming one of her most constant allies. He assists Mystina and Lezard in saving Lenneth's life when the gods attempt to do away with her.

An earlier incarnation of Arngrim is present in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. Initially, a mercenary working with Leone to raid the Serdberg Mountain Ruins for treasure, he and Leone join Alicia's quest to aid Dipan in their coming war with the gods. When Leone reveals her true identity as Hrist Valkyrie and takes the Dragon Orb, he follows her and is made an einherjar, aiding in the destruction of Dipan. After Odin is kidnapped by Lezard, Arngrim is remorseful of his actions and refuses to aid Hrist, offering his life to Alicia and Rufus in penance for his betrayal. Alicia accepts his service as an unpaid mercenary instead and thankful for a chance at redemption, Arngrim helps them recover the Dragon Orb and stop Lezard. After Lezard's defeat, Arngrim becomes the new guardian of the Dragon Orb.

His name is a reference to a legendary berserker from Norse mythology named Arngrim. His name in the Japanese version is written アリューゼ ("Aryuuze"). On the official Japanese website, it is romanized "Aluze." Other variations include "Aluzi" and "Aruze."

Barbarossa

Japanese Cast English Cast
Shuichi Ikeda (VP), Jouji Nakata (VP2) Maddie Blaustein (VP), Stephen Martello (VP2)

The long-deceased king of Dipan, centuries before Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Barbarossa was fooled into a search for immortality by his three mages and as a result incited the wrath of Odin. Hrist Valkyrie publicly beheaded Barbarossa via guillotine in the city square. His ghost, angered by this unjust action, haunted Dipan's ruins, and attacked Lenneth, believing her to be the one that killed him. Using the time machine built by the Three Mages, Lenneth travels back in time to the day of the execution, finds Barbarossa's wife Queen Malabeth, and is entrusted with the king's crown. Returning to the present, Lenneth presents the crown to Barbarossa's spirit, who realizes his error in judgement and apologizes to Lenneth, praising her with his utmost gratitude before finally resting in peace.

In Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, his role appears to be more villainous, as he banished his only daughter Alicia and was influenced by the Three Mages into challenging the gods' reign over humanity. It was later revealed before his execution by Hrist and Arngrim that he still loved Alicia and had sent her away to protect her from the consequences of his actions.

Celia

A human mercenary from Midgard, Celia is a friend of Arngrim, Kashell, Aelia, Lawfer, and Grey. However, she grows distraught as each of her friends dies one after the other and comes to the conclusion that these events began around the time that she believed Grey killed Lemia. When she finally finds Grey, she confronts him, but becomes lost when Grey's armor falls to pieces, revealing that he had disappeared. In fact, Grey had attempted the ritual of soul transfer to exchange his life for Lemia's but because Lemia had brought him back from death through her own soul transfer, the ritual failed and Grey's physical body ceased to be. After this event Celia collapses in anguish, and her fate is unknown.

Leone

Leone and Arngrim are mercenaries searching for treasure in the Sergberg Mountain Ruins when they encounter Alicia and her party. Leone and Arngrim agree to help Alicia find the Dragon Orb, provided they get first dibs on any other treasure they find. Initially very cold, Leone begins to open up to both Alicia and Silmeria, seeking to understand why they both seek to topple Odin. Only in the Palace of the Venerated Dragon are her motives for this revealed when she reveals herself to be Hrist Valkyrie in disguise.

Lezard Valeth

Class Weapon Race Age Birthplace Purify Weird Soul/Soul Crush Japanese Cast English Cast
Sorcerer/Necromancer Staff Human 24 Flenceburg Great Magic (VP), Animate Earth (VP2) Takehito Koyasu Maddie Blaustein (VP), Liam O'Brien (VP2)

An evil human, Lezard Valeth is a Sorcerer and Necromancer who plots to make Lenneth his own by any means necessary. Using the bodies of elves to construct homunculi, he believes that he can eventually attain godhood himself and provide Lenneth with a body that he could claim her in. He lures Lenneth to his tower, but she refuses to cooperate and thwarts his plans. He escapes, but eventually kills himself so that his spirit may travel through Midgard freely. With Arngrim and Mystina's help, he uses his necromantic powers and one of his homunculi to restore Lenneth to her Valkyrie body with the side-effect of granting her the ability to grow in power to that of the most powerful of gods.

Lezard appears as a playable character and later the main antagonist in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. After saving Alicia and her party from being captured by the Three Mages, he assists them for a short time before disappearing after the destruction of Dipan. Unknown to anyone besides suspicion from Freya, he is ultimately revealed to be the Lezard from after Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Using the time machine in Dipan, he traveled to the past, stole Silmeria's soul, and used her as a power source to defeat Odin and absorb the god's powers. He is later defeated and vanishes into nothingness when Alicia, Hrist, Lenneth, and Silmeria combine into the one ultimate Valkyrie. However, if Valkyrie is not used during the final battle, a secret ending is obtained showing both a reincarnated Alicia and a young boy who resembles Lezard; the meaning of this is unknown.

Lezard's name is written レザード・ヴァレス ([rezado] [varesu]). Although the romanizations used by fans are nearly endless, "Lezard Valeth" is the official English spelling as it appears in the games.

Lezard makes a cameo appearance in Radiata Stories as a bonus boss. A different character with his name appears as an NPC in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, but this different Lezard does share certain traits in terms of personality. Further, in Radiata Stories, Vareth Magic Institute may be a reference to Lezard.

Platina

Japanese Cast English Cast
Yumi Touma Megan Hollingshead

During a period of time where the Lenneth Valkyrie was put to sleep, she was reborn in Midgard as a human named Platina. A beautiful young girl with silver hair, she suffered constant abuse from her parents. When she was 14, her friend Lucian found out that her parents planned to sell her into slavery and she ran away with him, but the two accidentally wandered into the Weeping Lily Meadow. Having lost hope for her life and the future, Platina died in Lucian's arms from the toxic pollen and was laid to rest in the meadow. Odin and Freya sealed Lenneth's memories of her life as a human away, thinking that she would be easier to control if she couldn't remember the one human she had loved until her mortal death.

Roland

Arngrim's brother in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, he is physically weak and spends his time painting. Although he requires Arngrim's financial support, he quarrels with him over his philosophies. After Arngrim commits suicide following the slaughter of numerous Artolian soldiers in order to kill the court official responsible for Princess Jelanda's death, Roland is arrested and imprisoned.

The Three Mages

The Three Mages, Dallas, Gyne, and Walther, are three powerful sorcerers who serve King Barbarossa and the kingdom of Dipan in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. They were also present in the Lost City of Dipan in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth but had no voice actors and appeared as generic monster sprites.

Name Japanese Cast English Cast
Walther Tomomichi Nishimura Michael McConnohie
Gyne Haruo Satou Talis Axelrod
Dallas Hiroshi Kamiya Yuri Lowenthal

Walther is an elderly sorcerer who is mainly responsible for the construction of the time machine. He, along with Gyne, pretended to be loyal to Odin in order to temporarily escape Hrist's wrath. After being defeated by Alicia, Walther took some Ghoul Powder and became a demon.

Gyne is a sorcerer of the same league as Walther, agreeing to go along with his plans but feeling sorry for King Barbarossa's fate. After being defeated, Gyne, like Walther, also took the Ghoul Powder.

The youngest of the Three Mages and Alicia's childhood friend, Dallas is a cowardly young man who wasdragged into the shameful experiments of Dipan thinking that there could be a way to separate Silmeria's soul from Alicia. Dallas was the one who hid Queen Malabeth during Dipan's destruction and is also the one who agreed to send Alicia into an exile. Dallas unwillingly became a demon because of Walther and he dedicated the very last moments of his life for the sake of his friends, king and country. In Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Dallas is portrayed the other way around; as an ugly and foul-mouthed mage that enjoys calling Valkyrie some insulting names such as "The Goddess of Fools."

Initially approached by Alicia in Solde at the behest of Silmeria, who senses that he is a great warrior, Rufus is a cynical yet reserved archer. Upon helping Alicia reach Dipan, Rufus learns of the connection between Silmeria and Alicia and agrees to help them, as he too opposes the gods. This animosity stems from the fact that Rufus is a half-elf, destined to serve as a replacement body for Odin if his current body ever fail. Should that happen, Rufus would simply cease to exist. Rufus must wear the Ring of Mylinn, crafted by the Aesir, at all times, which prevents him from aging and a natural death and allows Odin to "call" on him at any time; taking the ring off would result in Rufus' death in short order. At the end of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, Rufus returns to Asgard with Gungnir, which had been taken by Lezard, and becomes the new ruler of Asgard due to Odin's demise, though he still journeys through Midgard. Upon one of these sojourns, he meets a young girl resembling Alicia, suggesting that she has been reincarnated.

Sorceress/Maiden Staff Human 17 Yamato Great Magic Natsumi Yanase Tara Jayne

The adopted daughter of a Shinto priest in Yamato, Nanami was chosen to inherit the family shrine after her adoptive family's daughter, Minayo tragically died. A strong believer in fate, she is emotionally level-headed and calm, and was unable to see the danger the shrine's rite of passage posed to her due to the fact that she wasn't a true member of the family bloodline. During the trial, she encountered the angered spirit of Minayo. Lenneth appears and drives the spirit off, but Nanami gives up her body to allow Minayo's spirit to take it and live on.

Nanami's Japanese name is written 那々美. The first and last characters were likely taken from Minayo's name which was written 美那代. 美 means "beautiful" and is often used in girls' names, usually on the end. 那 means "what" or "which" but, in the case of names, is used phonetically. 代 means "generation" and is probably also used phonetically in this case. The middle character in Nanami's name, 々, is a kanji repetition symbol.

Afterwards, Suo, who fought for the opposing side, found her and brought her back to his camp where she was deemed dangerous by his superiors and executed. She was recruited by Lenneth soon after.

In Japanese, Shiho's name is written 詩帆, using characters for "poem" and "sail." The first character may be an allusion to her singing, but the two are most likely used phonetically.

A samurai from Yamato, he lived by the sword until meeting Shiho, who made him question the nobility of his efforts. Stopping to think, he left his guard open and was killed by a peasant. He continued to ask himself what it was that truly mattered even as Lenneth appeared to recruit him. If sent up to Valhalla in the same chapter, a scene between Suo and Shiho together will play.

Suo's Japanese name is written 蘇芳. It can also be romanized as "Suou" or "Suoh." The characters mean "revival" and "frangrance," respectively, a small tree in family Fabaceae, and having the colour "suo", blackish-red, thus representing bloodiness. The character 芳 is often read "hou," but it seems to be read "ou" in this case.

Yumei

Sorceress Staff Mermaid 16 Yamato Great Magic Hiroko Emori Tara Jayne

A mermaid that lived off the coast of Yamato, Yumei was born to a mermaid mother and a human father. After her mother died, she attempted to locate her father by hitching a ride on a small fishing boat operated by a father and son, and struck up a friendship with the boy. She spoke of her desire to find a cerulean lapis, a rare gem said to grant wishes, but ultimately fled in despair when she learned that her father had died years before. She shared her history with the boy, about how she was looked upon with disdain by the merfolk for being half-human, and that with the death of her father, she had lost all hope and motivation. As she cried, a cerulean lapis formed from her tears and after she swam off, the boy picked the lapis up, and used it to wish for her to be reunited with her parents. The wish, however, had the effect of killing Yumei.

Yumei's Japanese name is written 夢瑠, the characters meaning "dream" and "Lapis lazuli." On the official website, her name is romanized "Yumel." Although the characters used for her name are read "Yumeru," "Yumel" could very well be the preferred spelling because 1) her name may come from the mermaid language, and 2) "Yumeru" is not a standard Japanese name.

Forces around her would conspire to restart the war, however, as both the forces of Rosetta, Arkdain, and Gorhia began to agitate for war, engaging in skirmishes for a number of years. Rosetta would eventually dispatch Ehrde and Adonis to Lassen to take the city. Celes killed Adonis, but was captured immediately afterwards by Ehrde and taken to Rosetta. While prisoner she learned that Rosetta was seeking to cut off the link the Aesir had to Midgard, a cause she soon concluded was in the right. She defected to Rosetta and became the Black Radiance General, a title formerly held by Adonis. She was put in charge of the defense of Rosetta territory as the war began to turn against them. He is very protective of Alicia and does not trust either Arngrim or Leone. After her death, Paltierre collapsed as a nation, although Dipan would live on for a time. Phyress died at the age of 58, but requested to be materialized as 17, her age during the One Year War. Alicia is a descendant of Phyress' unnamed brother, though the exact order of the lineage confuses even her as she tells Alicia, "You'll be fine. After all, you're my brother's child's...I can't remember."

He was found by Phyress, Princess of Dipan and future Queen of Paltierre, and adopted by the royal family. He lived comfortably, raised alongside the queen's daughter Chrystie, but decided to flee the country lest his true heritage lead to civil war over the kingship. He wandered the land working as a bard, but five years later he ran into Chrystie, who had chased after him when he fled. At this time Queen Hel of Nifelheim launched an invasion of Midgard via a portal to the underworld (the Mists of Nifelheim). Seluvia and Chrystie searched for this portal together, encountering Dyn on their journey. The three of them found the portal and sealed it, although Dyn was trapped on the other side. Seluvia and Chrystie decided to continue their wanderings, living off Seluvia's singing ability. To honor Dyn's sacrifice, Seluvia composed a ballad of his exploits.

She created several golems, but they were mindless creatures. She began to research the arcane for a method of soul transference, eventually discovering a method and attempting it on one of her golems. She was able to infuse the golem with a soul, but the creature did not truly utilize the soul for consciousness, but instead relied on it solely as a power source and was no more lifelike than her previous attempts. She was shortly after apprehended by the Hai-Lan authorities and executed for her magical practices. Despite her tinkering with magical entities, she is an archer, not a mage. It is hinted, although never confirmed in-game, that Sha-Kon is front the same area as and may be the mysterious owner of the Clockwork Mansion who was executed some time before Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.
