Final Fantasy V has a wide variety of armor which protects characters from physical and magical damage. The Freelancer and Mime class can equip almost all armor parts in the game. However, some classes cannot equip certain types of armor.

Light armor
They include robes and hats.
Medium armor
They include clothes and light helms.
Ribbon armor
Ribbon armor parts (plus the Man-eater knife) can only be equipped by the Dancer. If the Dancer masters the "Equip ribbons" ability, any other job can use these armor parts.
Heavy armor
They include body armor, helms, shields and gauntlets.
