The main single player mode is Mario Kart: Double Dash!!/Grand Prix, where you race on a selection of four tracks per cup. Completing different cups can sometimes unlock different things, including a Mirror mode where all tracks are reversed and the All Cup Tour.

New with this game is that Grand Prix can be played along with a partner, one player doing the driving, while the other handling items. Players can swap places if desired.

As with most racing games, there is also a Time Trial mode where you are given three mushrooms and challenged to get the best time on an empty course.

In addition to standard races there is Battle mode where you and your friends battle for superiority.
