This stage presents few challenges, and can be an easy choice for the initial stage played in the game. Conveyor belts throughout the stage attempt to move Mega Man into harmful obstacles or into bottomless bits. Spiked weights attached to chains try to crush Mega Man near the beginning (touching the chains also causes damage!), and later in the stage odd jesters ride on large cogs but are easily defeated.

Item 2, which is gained from defeating Air Man, is useful to gain a 1up early in the stage, and can be used to get an energy tank later on (Item 1 can also be used to get this tank).

Metal Man is probably the easiest boss in the game. He will stay in one spot and do nothing as long as Mega Man does not fire a shot or go near him. When Mega Man fires his weapon, Metal Man will jump high in the air and fire a number of metal blades in Mega Man's direction. If Mega Man gets too near, Metal Man will jump to the opposite side of the room and continue the same pattern. Metal Man's defeat is simple; just lay into him with the basic plasma gun and don't let up and he'll be toast very quickly. After his defeat, Mega Man is presented with the Metal Blade, a very handy weapon which can fire in eight directions, uses little energy, and damages most enemies quite nicely.

When you face Metalman the second time (Before facing off with Dr. Wily), using his own weapon against him results in a one-hit kill.
