Main menu[edit]

The main menu is different between the N64 and XBLA versions. The N64 version launches straight to picking a save file from one of three slots, while the XBLA version begins with a full menu. The options in the XBLA version are as follows.

  • Play Game: Opens up the save file choice screen.
  • Leaderboards: Displays the scores of players and their online friends from the various levels of the game.
  • Achievements: Opens the XBLA achievements menu for Banjo-Kazooie.
  • Help & Options: Shows the control guide and options menu.
  • Return to Arcade: Functionally a quit button.

Options[edit]

The Options button, known as Help & Options, is accessible either from the main menu or from the pause menu while in-game. It is only available in the XBLA version, and has the following options.

  • How To Play: A written guide of how to use various moves in the game.
  • Controls: A visual guide of what each button does control-wise.
  • Settings: Volume settings for music and sound effects.
  • Credits: Plays a cutscene of various characters listing the roles and names of Banjo-Kazooie developers. Only available in the main menu.

Getting around[edit]

Combat[edit]

Death[edit]

When losing all health via missing honeycomb pieces or losing all air, Banjo and Kazooie will play a death animation, followed by a cackle by Gruntilda. If you run out of air, Banjo and Kazooie will have a different death animation to show them "drowning" and gurgling in the water. If you die within a world, you will respawn at the world's starting pad as long as you have enough lives. If you die within Gruntilda's Lair, you will respawn at the last door/loading screen you went through. If you run out of lives, a game over cutscene will play. In this cutscene, Gruntilda "wins" and transforms herself into the beauty she wants to be, where Tooty comes out looking worse and menacingly asking where Banjo is. After this, the game will essentially be restarted - you will see the starting cutscenes again and have to go in and choose a save file again. Note: Your progress will not be reset, after death your best jiggy and note progress in the level will be automatically saved (as well as any extra honeycomb pieces you may have collected before death).
