GunLord is an arcade style game, you use credits to play and continue. There is no save system so you have to go through the entire game in one trip.
When you lose a life you respawn at the place where you were standing upright on a solid ground for the last time. If it were your last life you can use a continue (limited on Dreamcast and AES versions).
