Analyzer[edit]

When equipped, centering your field of view an enemy soldier or Prisoner of War will scan them and expose their aptitudes and rank. Upgrades to the Analyzer will allow it to scan faster and reveal more information about the scanned subject. The value of the Analyzer is limited, as the soldiers consistently worth extracting will be pointed out by this walkthrough. However, high ranks may be randomly distributed among some soldiers. Only in such cases would it be advised to take the time and use the Analyzer on an enemy soldier.

Surround Indicator[edit]

The Surround Indicator detects motion based on the sounds made by you, enemy soldiers and vehicles, and prisoners of war. The outer ring represents exterior sound sources while the inner ring represents sounds made by you. The red N will always point north, adding value to the Surround Indicator as a reliable compass. The Surround Indicator consumes no battery power unlike other radars such as the Soliton Radar or movement indicators such as the Sonic Eye. The only downside is that unlike in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, the Surround Indicator is not always displayed on your HUD unless it is equipped.

When enemies move, they produce sound that is visually displayed on the indicator as "noise." The direction relative to you will also be displayed; if an enemy is moving northwest of your position, the "noise" will appear to the left of the red N. The color of the noise that represents enemy movement will indicate an enemy's proximity to you; blue noise is an enemy that is far away while red noise is an enemy that is close. Enemies in the red are most likely in audio range and can hear your footsteps while running. Whenever you see red on the indicator, it is a good idea to stalk by gently tilting the Analog Stick as stalking produces no noise.

The Surround Indicator is invaluable for tracking enemies in areas of low visibility such as Aldea los Despiertos, and especially against helicopters such as the Mi-24A and when fighting Chrysalis. It is always recommended to come into any mission with the Surround Indicator as your top item.
